Oz. You Know, the Great and Powerful…and Mila Kunis

It seems like Oz: The Great and Powerful is gearing up to be quite a flick. This is a prequel to the much beloved Judy Garland classic from 1939. It takes place years prior to Dorthy and Toto’s arrival, this time focusing on the arrival ‘the Wizard’; James Franco. I’m a big fan of Franco, and I can’t wait to see him in his portrayal of the Wizard, as he arrives in the land of Oz. His character is described as such:

“a fast-talking snake oil salesman and illusionist who flees a traveling circus and winds up whisked away in a hot air balloon by a tornado to Oz where he must face off against real magic and the sisters battling for control of the land.”

Franco can play anything as far as I’m concerned. Whether it’s a vengeful trust fund brat in Spiderman, a stoner drug dealer in Pineapple Express or a rock climber who hacks off his own arm in 127 Hours, the guy is one hell of a versatile actor. Oh and let’s not forget his role as ‘Taste’ in Date Night. He and his girlfriend ‘Whip It’ were quite a duo in that film. ‘Whip It’ as you know (or may not) was played by Mila Kunis who has also just been cast in the Oz movie.

IGN has reported that Kunis is up for the role of Theodora, the soon to be ‘Wicked Witch of the West’ who will be giving Dorothy and her companions so much trouble in her later years. I’m not sure if Theodora started off with green skin, but Mila Kunis will be a very sexy witch indeed, whether her skin is green or not. And the description said something about the Wizard denying her sexual advances? How in the hell can you deny the sexual advances of Mila Kunis? Franco must still be stuck in Milk mode. I picture Mila Kunis being portrayed as artist J. Scott Campbell would have. Check out the comparison below:

These darn things always creeped me out… 

I probably shouldn’t get my hopes up for this, but I can’t help it. I’m not sure there is a Sam Raimi movie out there that I flat-out despise…except for Spiderman 3, but with him directing you can bet the flying monkeys will be creepy as all Hell.

I’m just sick and tired of seeing literary and movie classics ruined or done half-assed in re-imaginings or sequels/prequels. For me it all started with Burton and another movie murder he committed with the monstrosity that was Alice in Wonderland. I hated that movie almost as much as the Charlie and the Chocolate Factory remake he did. And yes I realize that Alice was one of the highest grossing movies ever, but so were Revenge of The Fallen and The Phantom Menace. We’ve already had Wonderland and Red Riding Hood. Now with Jack and the Beanstalk and Snow White and the Huntsman still to come.
