Marvel Comic Review: X-men Legacy #248: Age of X Aftermath

This issue was a must, with everyone being left without any closure and wondering what the after effects of the Age of X would have on our favorite mutants. I also wondered what the heck happened to Legion at the end? Didn’t Xavier say they didn’t know where he was? How would they deal with him? Would anyone smack Dr. Nemesis in the face for dropping the ball on his treatment on Legion? I would say all of that was answered in this issue for the most part.

The story starts with a select group of X-men going over options for how to deal with the leftover memories from the reality that Legion created. Dr. Nemesis is more concerned about Legion, suggesting brainwashing, but Emma Frost retorts that it is unethical and reckless. She also won’t implant false memories, but will offer to suppress memories of those who chose it. Cannonball, Iceman, Namor, Dust and many others choose to have their Age of X memories repressed, while some including Frenzy, Rogue, Magneto and Gambit do not.

Professor X and Dr. Nemesis meanwhile find a way to help Legion not become any one of his “sub-selves” for too long to create something like the Moira one that caused the Age of X. A device on his wrist allows him to momentarily access the power of one of his sub-selves without becoming overwhelmed and out of control again.

Frenzy refuses to leave her memories from the AoX behind, still being strongly attracted to Cyclops. He tries to reason with her that the memories are and were all fabricated so it doesn’t matter, but it doesn’t seem like she’s going to listen to reason. I’m sensing big problems with Frenzy in the near future. Speaking of feelings, a little love triangle seems to be developing between Rogue, Magneto and Gambit. (Again?) and even more interestingly Rachel Summers seems to have a bit of a problem. Due to Evil-Moira’s tampering, her physical body has been seperated from her mind which now shows itself as a non physical manifestation. Cyclops vows to find her wherever she is. It appears we’ll shortly be seeing space X-men real soon.

Overall I give this issue a 4 out of 5. I’m still enjoying the art and the after effects of the AoX has definitely opened up plenty of new storylines for the X-men including Legion’s ultimate fate, the search for Rachel Summers and Frenzy’s problematic attraction to Cyclops.
