Who would have thought there would ever be a reboot to the Flintstones franchise? Apparently Seth MacFarlane did and it is now his quest to bring the town of Bedrock back into our lives. No signs of whether this means a new TV show or new movies, but I shudder to think of there ever being another live action movie.
Seth MacFarlane is one of the busiest creatives in show business — and he just got a lot busier. I’ve just learned that he’s finally realized one of his life’s ambitions: to reboot The Flintstones as a TV and film property. My scoop today follows years of very complicated negotiations between 20th Century Fox TV, where McFarlane is based, and Warner Bros Television, which owns the rights to the series after absorbing The Flintstones’ famed producer Hanna-Barbera. Not only did the suits have a ton of deal points to work through, but I hear the “Yabba Dabba Doo” prehistoric family sitcom’s rightholders were somewhat concerned how the classic series would be interpreted given MacFarlane’s brand of raunchy comedies like Family Guy.
I wondered the same thing about what MacFarlane’s interpretation of the show would be. Family Guy is so full of mindless, stupid comedy that it might be hard to believe that he would do anything different. However, if it was one of his life’s ambitions to get the Flinstone’s back out there I’m sure he could do it with class and integrity and not simple fart and sex jokes.
Time will tell how the newest rendition of this classic show will turn out, but you can be sure there is always room for one more animated sitcom style show on the Fox network. Thoughts anyone? Well stop thinking and post them below!
I do not like Seth McFarlane. Family Guy hasn’t been good since they brought it back, American Dad sucks, and I haven’t bothered to watch The Cleveland Show, but I’m sure that sucks too.
I have no faith that McFarlane will not ruin The Flintstones.
