I have been a fan of Evil Dead since I was old enough to watch movies. The entire trilogy was a monumental part of my cinematic development, crafting my tastes and humor at an early age, and ultimatly instilling a deep love for anything related to Bruce Campbell.
Evil Dead was a very low budget extremely indie movie made by Sam Raimi and Bruce Campbell. Both have moved on to impressive careers and cult favorite status. It told the story of Ash, a young man who goes to a cabin in the woods with his friends, and is soon plagued by a night of evil. And hilarity. The second and third movies got even funnier, and nothing beats Evil Dead 2.
And there has been a rumor for a while of either a sequel or a remake, but it looks like we now have a few bits of confirmation. The first is from Dread Central:
Dread Central has it on good authority from a very reliable source that long-time Sam Raimi editor Bob Murawski (Army of Darkness; Spider-man, Drag me to Hell) has packed up and headed out to Detroit to begin work on the long talked about fourth entry into the Evil Dead franchise, which will be “a small indie thing like the first two.”
So that’s a pretty good confirmation… but wait, there’s more! The greatest B-Movie actor ever and the other Old Spice guy confirms it when he recently joined Twitter.

Bruce joined twitter last week and immediately started posting and answering fan questions. When asked if the Evil Dead remake was still happening he responded, “Believe in the remake, dawg! The project is real. In the works. Cool as hell. Scary as hell.” Ash seems to know what he’s talking about.
So what are my thoughts on an Evil Dead sequel/remake? I’m really not sure. Do I want to see one of my all time favorite movies remade, even if it’s by Raimi and Campbell again? Do I want to see a sequel of said movie, knowing how sequels usually are, and knowing that one of the worst sequels ever (Spider-Man 3) was made by Raimi?
Your damn right I do. Drag Me to Hell showed a lot of great classic Evil Dead effects, it just didn’t do well at the box office. But you can tell Raimi still has the touch, and he has fun with it. So bring it on. Give me something great. Give me…
