Tron 3 in 2013?

Disney’s D23 expo never really interests me unless they’re talking about another Pirates of the Caribbean, which even now doesn’t matter to me anymore. Tron however is a different matter together. I loved Tron: Legacy even not having watched the original since I was little. It was visually stunning and had a pretty interesting story. Plus, when do you get to see a movie where Jeff Bridges is both the hero and the villain?

As much as I loved it I had honestly forgot about the possibility of a Tron 3. But Bruce Boxleitner, playing Tron in both films, recently confirmed at the D23 Expo that Tron 3 is a done deal and should be out around 2013. Since Disney hasn’t come out to dispute this then I’m one happy camper. Check out a snippet from Blastr:

Separating truth from rumors on the game grid ain’t easy, but when it comes to digital honesty, nothing matches the electronic truth of Tron. And Bruce Boxleitner has just confirmed Tron 3 is entering full resolution and well on its way toward a 2013 release.

Game is definitely on!

Boxleitner was questioned by an adoring fan at the recent D23 convention and expounded on Tron 3’s extended life cycle, saying:

“It’s already a done deal. It’s already in the works, my friend.”

Sounds good to me Bruce! As we all know there are some great possibilities to be explored in Tron 3. Cillian Murphy returning as the son of Dillinger after his all too brief stint in Legacy is probably at the top of my list. Dillinger was of course the villain in the first Tron movie, so his son has plenty of reason to not like the Flynns. I think Murphy, though still good in other roles, truly excels as a villain and Tron 3 would be no exception. I hope by 2013 we get to see Murphy on the grid filling the void that CLU left behind.
