Bendis & Pichelli’s Spider-Men Revealed!
Last time on Comic Rack we showed you a few teaser’s for the upcoming mini-series Spider-Men, brought to us by Brian Michael Bendis and Sara Pichelli, the team behind Ultimate Comics Spider-Man, which features Miles Morales as the new Spider-Man in the Ultimate universe. The first teaser showed what looked like the mainstream Peter Parker (616) and an unknown Spider-Man. Yesterday the completed image was released along with a ton of details. Newsarama reports:
This June, it’s time for Peter Parker, better known as the Amazing Spider-Man, to cross worlds and meet Miles Morales…the all-new Spider-Man? Marvel is proud to announce Spider-Men, an all-new five issue landmark story from award-winning author Brian Michael Bendis (Avengers VS. X-Men, Ultimate Comics Spider-Man), red-hot artist Sara Pichelli (Ultimate Comics Spider-Man) and acclaimed cover artist Jim Cheung (Avengers VS. X-Men), which brings Peter Parker and Miles Morales together for the first time. That’s right, the Spider-Man from two different realities—the Marvel Universe and Ultimate Comics Universe—bring their worlds together for a battle no one web-head could win!
When Spider-Man tracks down one of his deadliest villains, he suddenly finds himself thrust into another world where Peter Parker is dead…and there’s a new Spider-Man in town. As these two heroes learn the truth about their identities and their universes, they’ll embark on a journey that’ll leave them forever changed—and reveal a startling truth about a key player in the Spider-Man mythos!“This year is the 50th anniversary of Spider-Man and we’re so happy that the stars aligned for us to tell a Spider-Man story that nobody has ever seen before,” said Bendis. “It’s an honor and a privilege to present both this story and these characters to fans on such an auspicious occasion. The work Sara has done on Spider-Men is a step above the already high standard that she has set for herself on our Ultimate Comics Spider-Man series. For me, this is a celebration of the best character in mainstream comics and some of the best art mainstream comics has to offer.”
Pretty exciting news. The first time we’ll see the 616 universe crossover with the Ultimate universe and it couldn’t be at a better time. I’ve always thought that Miles Morales would benefit so much from a little interaction with Peter Parker, so to meet the Amazing Spider-man himself will be huge. Probably be an eye opener for Peter Parker too. Now I know some comic fans will be thinking about a former rule from Joe Quesada (Marvel’s Chief Creative Officer) regarding a crossover like this never happening, but he explains himself over on Newsarama. And over at CBR there’s more on Spider-Men from Editor-In-Chief Axel Alonso which is a good read as well.
Masters of The Universe Returns to DC Comics!
Pretty much every kid from the mid 80’s on has enjoyed He-Man & The Masters of the Universe in one form or another. Whether it was toys, cartoons, comics, or the live-action movie starring Dolph Lundgren, He-Man is a pop culture icon. So I’m sure I’m not the only one excited to hear of a new limited series coming from DC Comics. Here’s the report from The Source:
He-Man fans rejoice! An all-new comic book series chronicling HE-MAN AND THE MASTERS OF THE UNIVERSE will be released starting in July, and offer an entirely new take on the storied warrior who celebrates his 30th anniversary this year. The six issue, limited series is written by James Robinson, with pencils by Phillip Tan and inks from Ruy Jose.
In the new series, Robinson reintroduces the Masters of the Universe® to comic readers with Skeletor having won a major victory and rewriting the world of Eternia where he now rules from Castle Grayskull and the Masters have no memory of their former glory. Adam is a simple woodsman haunted by dreams of a heroic warrior, wielding a powerful sword in battle. He is found by a mysterious sorceress who tells him his dreams are of the way the world should be, that he is Eternia’s champion He-Man. Adam sets off on a quest to regain his power and reawaken the Masters of the Universe.
Most of He-Man’s in comics has been in the form of mini-comics released most commonly with toys. Series have been previously produced by DC, Marvel Comics, and Dark Horse and I loved ’em all. Very excited for this and it seems to be coming from a great creative team with Robinson and Tan.
Archie vs. Kiss?
Uh… what? I have nothing to say about this. BleedingCool does:
They “met” in a previous crossover. But now it seems as if they’ve got some Avengers Vs X-Men fever. Because this winter it will be Archie VS Kiss. Presumably in some kind of battle-of-the-bands scenario. Well, I suppose the residents of Riverdale and the members of KISS are equally preposterous and fictitious, so why not?
If this isn’t Kiss Saves Santa mixed with a little Archie Meets The Punisher then I’m not really interested. But I can’t seem to look away…
New Covers for Before Watchmen!
DC revealed a new round of covers for the upcoming Watchmen prequels. If you haven’t heard about the prequels you can check out our look at them here with some of the first issue covers released at the time. Here’s a new set of covers for Comedian, Silk Spectre, and Minutemen, from ComicVine:
And here’s a little piece of art featuring the Minutemen by Darwyn Cooke:
As much as I may want to hate on this I have to say I may be getting excited to read some of these. Here are the first covers if you missed them. Looking forward to Rorschach and Nite Owl personally, just look at that cover by Andy Kubert. B-e-a-utiful.
Marvel Teasers from C2E2!
The Chicago Comic & Entertainment Expo (C2E2) always has a ton of news regarding comics… and entertainment. Only days away, we always expect a ton of news to come from this event. Marvel loves to show us teasers to get our geek chubs going, and this year is no different. First they dropped news that the creative team behind the ridiculously awesome The Immortal Iron Fist is set to reunite. Matt Fraction and David Aja made Iron Fist cool again with a great story backed up by some even greater art. This teaser shows us the vague announcement:
Nothing big is revealed, but most seem to think that the color scheme and the arrow seem to signify the book will be Hawkeye. Which. Is. AWESOME! These two working on my favorite Avenger ever? Yea, cue geek chub. And as if that wasn’t enough another teaser was released that is the complete opposite of this one, giving us the title without any clue on creators or anything else really:
This one isn’t as huge of a teaser, unless of course Fraction and Aja will be working on Gambit, but I kind of doubt that. Gambit has already had a few series under his belt, and has been through a number of changes recently with the X-Men. Time will tell on this one, but chances are it will have something to do with Avengers vs. X-Men wrapping up around the same time Gambit begins.
Well, that wraps up this edition of Comic Rack!
