They say if shit is worth doing, it’s worth overdoing. The marketing team behind Resident Evil: Retribution is taking this motto to heart. They’re hosting a premiere for a trailer. In case you didn’t get it, they came up with an entire event just to promote a trailer to the movie. In case you haven’t heard of the movie, here’s a teaser, or trailer… something like that. Yes, it looks like a commercial to some sort of technological product. Ridiculous, right?
If you’ve read my Tomb Raider piece, you would know how ridiculous the notion of “a tease to a tease” is. Sooner or later, there will be a news conference for the teaser to the trailer of the movie’s DVD release.
Apparently, a Q&A with the series star Milla Jovovich will take place on June 14th at 8am PST (or 11am EST). Hosted at Regal Union Square Cinema in New York, anyone can attend this event for free on a first come first serve basis. For those who can’t make it, the session will be streamed live on Facebook with the option for viewers to submit their own questions. The event will be translated into 10 languages. Talk about overkill.
Don’t trip. They’ll eat your face off.
As for the trailer, it will debut after the Q&A session.
The Resident Evil movies have always been overblown. I’m fairly sure Retribution won’t be that much different. I don’t expect much from the Q&A. It’s just another franchise with movies churned out every two years (a la Fast and Furious). It will (predictably) include 3D as a gimmick; the storyline will not remotely resemble any of the video games. Yet, we’ll watch them, simply because they’re mindless fun.
Mindless fun… and skintight bodysuits
Bottom line, it’s not worth doing this amount of promotion for a video-game-based movie franchise. People don’t watch this because they love the video games. They watch this because they know what they can expect – mindless action sequences and Milla Jovovich. In other words, doing a Q&A, in my opinion, won’t help increase the money the movie makes at the box office.
But then, it’s not my money. Whatever.
Plus, Milla Jovovich is hot. Related? No, not really. Just sayin’…

Is she standing on top of the White House? Does that mean shes the president?
