Wow…has it really been 9 years since his last leading role in Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines – oh right, yeah that’s why. Seriously I think I speak for all of us when I say he needs to come back and kick ass. This new acting chapter should be fun to see, and we know there is more of him to come in the next few years (please be good). Will he be the same action icon with one liners or something more serious? I would like to see something more serious, but I also don’t want him to lose his personality (Batman and Robin was too far). The picture below shows the main characters in his latest film – Last Stand. This is director Kim Ji-Woon‘s first American film.
Plot:
The story revolves around Schwarzenegger as the aging Sheriff Owens, a disgraced LAPD officer who gave up his post and exiled himself to the Mexican border town of Sommerton Junction (as penance for screwing up an operation that left his partner permanently disabled). A chance for redemption presents itself in escaped drug cartel head Gabriel Cortez (Eduardo Noriega) racing to cross the border, with a hostage for leverage, a small armada of thugs (including, Peter Stormare), and a “specially outfitted car.” Owens assembles a ragtag crew of officers that includes the “rookie” Sarah Torrance (Thor‘s Jaimie Alexander), and comically-inept Lewis Dinkum (Johnny Knoxville), to stage (you guessed it) a last stand against Cortez.
Last Stand, at one point, was taking shape as a Liam Neeson action flick. It’s an interesting choice of comeback vehicle for Arnold, who’s hoping for a second wind-career as a greying screen hero (similar to Neeson). We say “interesting” because Kim’s storytelling tendencies vary from relentlessly brutal and unnerving (I Saw the Devil) to quirky and off-beat. He’s adept at mixing violence with comedy – a skill that should serve well on his Hollywood debut.
Now when I heard this from Screen Rant I thought it was a bit weird, but more that I think about it the action mixed with comedy is right down Arnold’s street in terms of acting, and should prove a good returning point for his career. Arnold knows how to mix the two genres as he has proved many times in his career (insert any of his films here). Never less he is getting on a bit and as he celebrates his 65th birthday this year, it gets you thinking about how this will effect the way he works. The source below talks a little on this factor.
The legendary hard man’s new character has a tongue in cheek catchphrase that plays on his most well-known one “I’ll be back” – featured in the Terminator movies.
According to British newspaper The Sun, Arnold’s new saying is “I feel old”
His new phrase may be a direct reference to the fact he has aged since he last had a big role on screen and the 65-year-old realises his return will not be an easy ride. Rather than easing himself back into films, Arnold is back doing the high-impact stunts and all-action scenes he is best known for.
“I guess I could have started slow,” Arnold previously said, “but it felt amazing to be back jumping off buildings, seeing huge explosions, getting in car chases and throwing punches.”

Not sure about the new catch phrase but the idea of him still doing high-octane actions scenes is either fantastic or terrible, but who wouldn’t want to at least see him try? For an example the Expendables 2 just showed this clip of Schwarzenegger and Willis kicking ass. So please enjoy because I know I did.

Last Stand‘s cast includes Jaimie Alexander, Rodrigo Santoro, Peter Stormare, Zach Gilford (Friday Night Lights), Johnny Knoxville (Jackass), Luis Guzmán (Oz), Harry Dean Stanton (Alien), and Oscar-winner Forest Whitaker (The Crying Game, The Last King of Scotland). Between that eclectic (but decent) cast, Kim as director – and a screenplay that has previously been described as a hybrid of films like Fast Five, Die Hard, and High Noon, it seems like The Last Stand is poised to be a solid thrill ride. To be honest I am not sure how you can mix all of those types of films but we will soon see what comes out of production next year. We want Terminator 2 not Collateral Damage, good luck.
