‘Ultimate Spider-Man’ Season 2 Trailer

First off, let me say that I am not the biggest fan of the Ultimate Spider-Man animated series. I loved the comics, but to be honest, I am in total hate with the cartoon. I don’t really blame the series for that either, since I was such a huge fan of The Spectacular Spider-Man series that anything but will always fall short. I watched the first season of Ultimate Spider-Man in a attempt to be fair to the character I have always loved. I was not wowed. But in the show’s defense, I’m not really the demographic they are going for.

As a part of Disney XD’s Marvel Universe line of programming, we’ve seen a new series with more on the way that are aimed at a younger audience, much like The Super Hero Squad Show. The well written interconnected stories and perfect homage to the classic era of Spider-Man that was displayed in Spectacular doesn’t draw in the new fans quite like Ultimate does, which caters to the rising popularity of the mainstream Marvel characters. I totally get it, I just don’t care for it as much.

Which is a bit of a shame, since it includes a great cast of characters that share the screen with Spidey. Characters like Power Man (Luke Cage), Iron Fist, White Tiger, Nova (Sam Alexander), and even Agent Coulson, who plays the young team of heroes undercover principal. The first season introduced a ton of Marvel heroes and villains while moving through some of Spidey’s rogues gallery pretty effectively. While I may not have cared for the style of the show, some of the design work is brilliant and the story is consistently moving forward.

Marvel has recently released the first teaser from the upcoming second season of Ultimate Spider-Man, which we have for you here:

[box_light]On his journey to become the Ultimate Hero, Peter Parker has handled tough challenges. From learning to team up with fellow Super Heroes (including The Avengers!), to fighting baddies from across the Marvel Universe, to remembering to pick up groceries for Aunt May, Spidey thought he had things all webbed up.  Now in Season 2, his world’s been turned upside down as his teammates become roommates, and they’re left to face foes without the help of S.H.I.E.L.D. But when iconic Marvel villains like The Lizard, Kraven, Electro, the Rhino and Doc Ock team up to take on the young heroes, it’s time for Spidey to discover the “great responsibility” of being a leader. Catch the one-hour SPECIAL PRIME TIME PREMIERE of Ultimate Spider-Man Season 2, January 21 at 7p/6c on Disney XD. And keep up with the team every Sunday at 11a/10c inside Marvel Universe.[/box_light]

The trailer seems to keep a lot of what worked with the first season and are progressing the show accordingly. The best aspect was the team behind Spidey, and I love that we are going to be seeing more of that dynamic. Plus, having the team move in with Pete and Aunt May takes a page right out of the comic series which will probably add some more hilarity to the show as they continue to flush out the various personalities of the team. The updated roster of villains is definitely more Spidey-centric, and a gathering of the Sinister Six certainly can’t be too far away.

Some other things to look forward to from Disney XD and Marvel will be two new shows joining Ultimate Spider-Man soon, as both Avengers Assemble! and Hulk & the Agents of S.M.A.S.H. are slated to make their appearance. Be sure to check out the hour long premiere of Ultimate Spider-Man, and as always sound off in the comments section below!
