Arrow: Meet Mrs. Lance – Alex Kingston Comes to Starling City

Excuse me as I need a moment. Arrow is back from hiatus and with that comes more casting news. Today’s news is of a more than likely small character, but not a small name actress by any stretch of the imagination.

It appears as if we will get to meet Detective Lance’s wife and she will be played by none other than Alex Kingston. If you keep up with geek TV at all you know this name as it is none other than the actress who plays River Song from Doctor Who.

River-Song

Dinah LanceApparently Laurel’s mother decides to return to Starling City to attempt to reunite with her husband and daughter. Of course we know that she left after Laurel’s sister died on the Queen’s Gambit. Here’s hoping that she doesn’t show up for one or two episodes only to be killed off.  I have a feeling that will anger quite a few fans. Kingston joins fellow Doctor Who universe alum, John Barrowman who plays Malcolm Merlyn.  If you don’t watch Doctor Who (is there anyone who doesn’t?), then perhaps you remember Alex Kingston as Dr. Elizabeth Corday on ER.

It remains to be seen if Kingston will be playing Mrs. Lance as just the estranged mother and ex-wife or if she will be a version of her comics counterpart, Dinah Drake Lance, the original Black Canary. Could this homecoming perhaps lead Laurel to embrace her life as a kick ass martial artist? We’ll just have to tune in to find out. Dinah Lance is scheduled to return to Starling City in the coming months.

If that doesn’t blow your skirt up, then perhaps a little behind the scenes stunt work will.

Tune in this week to Arrow for an episode entitled “Trust but Verify” and as always, remember to come back here so we can discuss it together.
