Man of Steel – Toys, Amy Adams, and the Future of DC Movies?
There’s been quite a few news stories lately regarding DC’s next big tentpole film, and one story in particular describes just how important this film is to the future of DC’s movie empire. Basically despite the past movement on a justice League film, Warner Bros. is now pumping the brakes a little bit as we get closer to the release of Man of Steel. Uproxx reports:
[box_light]“Stakes are high for Man of Steel. Other than Nolan’s Batpics, Warners has not been able to effectively exploit the DC library. A Justice League film wouldn’t likely be in theaters before 2015, as Warner’s top brass has indicated that they are now awaiting the results of Man of Steel, which opens June 14, before moving further ahead.”[/box_light]
So basically they are putting all thier eggs into the Man of Steel‘s basket (that kind of sounds wrong…), which is a little frightening. Luckily with what we’ve seen so far from MoS I’m not too worried and things might be go for Justice League. Also we’ve got the first officially released photo of Amy Adams as Lois Lane (courtesy of SuperHeroHype), which looks pretty great.
Also recently released are some of the upcoming toys from the film, which give us Superman, Jor-El, and what I presume to be our first real look at Michael Shannon’s General Zod, who up to this point has been kept pretty securely under wraps. Photos from SuperHeroHype:
Iron Man 3 – Teaser, Poster, and Cameos?
Another film that is even closer to release is Shane Black’s Iron Man 3, which is shaping up to be a pretty interesting entry into the Iron Man trilogy. Of course, now that we have seen the Avengers Assemble, things won’t quite be the same as they were. We haven’t seen a ton of details regarding the story, but lately some comments have been made that seem to imply there might be a post-credit cameo most aren’t expecting. Collider reports:
[box_light]As a brief refresher, just this morning we ran the following quote from Robert Downey Jr. regarding a possible cameo from one or more of the Avengers in Iron Man 3:
“But we can’t help it — everywhere you look now in every Marvel movie there are opportunities where certain new pals of [Tony’s] could be useful. So they’re in the atmosphere, so to speak, but I wouldn’t expect to see them on the ground in this one.”
I noted at the time that Downey Jr.’s very careful word choice might be hinting at some sort of galactic presence in Iron Man 3, and it appears that could be the case. Spurred by the release of an Iron Man 3 toy that boasts Tony’s “Deep Space Suit” armor, the folks over at Latino Reviewposted the following scoop:
“According to sources, at the end of Iron Man 3, Tony actually does go up into space to hook up with the Guardians of The Galaxy where I also hear he appears at the end of that movie as well.”[/box_light]
Lending a little bit of substance to that rumor are recently released figures that show a Deep Space Armor for Tony that will probably be featured in the film. Splashpage has the image for you below. It may be important to note that Iron Man is set to join the Guardians of the Galaxy in the comics.
As if that wasn’t enough to get you excited for the movie, a new poster and teaser has been released in preparation for the TV spot set to air during the Superbowl.

A quick look, but the poster that accompanied it is pretty interesting, and features the new armor showcased at Comic-Con… or at least what’s left of it. Both are courtesy of SuperHeroHype:
X-Men: Days of Future Past – Story and Set Teasers
With the recent slew of casting news, I think a lot of fans are waiting to see what kind of story news we are going to see from the star studded sequel, and a recent casting call fro extras has revealed some news as to when the majority of DoFP will take place. Courtesy of Geekscape:
So apparently the sequel takes place more than a decade after the first film, which opens thing sup quite a bit, but may also mean some of the younger actors won’t be reprising their roles, but it’s still early to speculate on that. We also get to see a set design teaser which doesn’t reveal a whole lot, but it is pretty great to see Bryan Singer and crew back on the scene with the franchise he began. Image from SuperHeroHype:
And finally a little bit of news regarding the film and how it will connect to the original comic story line, as well as how they are dealing with time travel in the movie. Splashpage reports:
[box_light]“It has a lot of aspects of the comic,” he says in a new interview with Empire. “The actual comic of Days Of Future Past had a whole ton of stuff going on, so it’s like any of these things; you have to distill it. But I think the fans will be pleased that some of the most exciting parts of Days Of Future Past are going to be connected to this movie.”
Additionally, Singer spoke a bit about how the film will approach time travel: “We’ve cracked it in a way that it makes sense. I had a two-hour conversation with James Cameron about time travel, string theory, multiverses and all that. You have to create your rules and stick wtih them. That’s why Terminator and Back To The Future work so well. And there are certain mechanisms in X-Men, certain powers, perceptions and characters, that make this possible.”[/box_light]
Amazing Spider-Man 2 – Paul Giamatti as Rhino?
Having already shaken things up a bit with the casting of Jamie Foxx as Electro, the sequel is looking to add another big name and another big villain as it was recently announced that Paul Giamatti is in talks to play the Rhino, who is a longtime villain of Spidey’s and a mainstay in the supervillain group the Sinister Six. THR has the news, including the negotiations involving Felicity Jones, plus a quote from Giamatti on his love of the character:
[box_light]Paul Giamatti is in talks to join The Amazing Spider-Man 2 as the villain known as The Rhino, and Felicity Jones is negotiating for an unspecified role.
The role is a dream part for Giamatti, who in the past has said The Rhino was one of his favorite characters when he was a boy.
“I thought Rhino was the greatest thing when I was a little kid,” he told ShowbizSpy in March 2011. “It was a guy who was basically in this rhinoceros outfit, and I always thought, ‘Why don’t they have The Rhino in one of their movies.’ But maybe The Rhino wasn’t that big of a deal for anybody but me. … If they ever go with The Rhino, I would be ready and waiting.”[/box_light]
I mention the super group because it certainly looks like Marc Webb is building up a unique cast of villains that may or may not be set to cause some serious mayhem in a third installment. There’s an interesting write up on just this sort of scenario over on Cinema Blend. Also recently announced is that Amazing Spider-Man 2 will begin filming in New York on Feb.12th.
Superman: Unbound – New Trailer!
Finally, the latest animated feature from DC has released a brand new trailer! Superman: Unbound, based off of Geoff Johns and Gary Frank’s Brainiac storyline from Action Comics will be released later this year, and the trailer looks pretty interesting. From SuperHeroHype.
[box_light]Matt Bomer (‘White Collar’) will provide the voice of Clark Kent/Superman in the upcoming film. He’s joined by Stana Katic and Molly Quinn of “Castle” as Lois Lane and Supergirl respectively. John Noble of “Fringe” rounds out the cast as Brainiac.[/box_light]
Looks pretty awesome, I love Brainiac and I am rarely disappointed by any animated feature that DC has put out over the last few years.
That’s it for this edition of the Hero Express! Be sure to sound off in the comments section below about any of these news stories!
Ok Guys. Dont see it funny Giamatti as Rhino as in the Ultimate Universe, Rhino is a huge Robot/Machine controlled from within by a pilot.
May be it will not go All Iron Man-y, may be for this adaptation it will be remotely controlled
