Escape Plan, formerly known as The Tomb, released its first trailer today. No doubt that 20 years ago the release of this trailer would’ve been the biggest news on the internet, had anyone been ON the internet that is. However, now in their 60s, Stallone and Schwarzenegger don’t have the same pull they once did, but that doesn’t mean this won’t be worth watching. Even if their last 2 movies (Bullet to the Head, Last Stand) weren’t.
This first clip features a little of the iconic duo talking about what it’s like working together and why it didn’t happen sooner…
So the premise of this movie is that Sly plays Ray Breslin, a professional escape artist. He is hired to break out of prisons and such to exploit weaknesses and report back to those in charge so they can make upgrades and whatnot. Problem here is, his current assignment is a setup and he’s on lock down (or in LOCK UP! get it?) for real this time. Once inside he must team up with unlikely ally Swan Rottmayer (Schwarzenegger) to try and escape the inescapable structure. That idea prompted YouTuber (and obvious Stallone fan) JOHN RAMBO to make the following fan trailer. A trailer that is comprised of clips from various movies like Tango and Cash, The Running Man, Lock Up, and Fortress.
Finally we have the REAL trailer, just released a few hours ago. It gives us a peek at some more of the cast which include rapper 50 Cent, Amy Ryan (The Wire), Jim Caviezel (Jesus), and Vincent D’Onofrio (Full Metal Jacket).
Credited cast that I didn’t spot in the trailer include Snatch‘s Vinnie Jones and the famous Sam Neill of Jurassic Park fame. Also, the pretty girl (since near every movie since 1982 has required the presence of one) is Irish model Caitriona Balfe.
The film is currently set for release on October 18th, 2013.
