With San Diego Comic-Con just a couple of weeks away, news from the major studios will be relatively slim, as they prepare most big announcements for the fan favorite event. So what better time than now to take a look at a few of the rumors and discussions that just might hold us over until SDCC.
First up we have Sam Rockwell discussing the future of Justin Hammer in the MCU (Marvel Cinematic Universe, as if we really have to keep explaining this). He was pretty much the best part of Iron Man 2, and his return to the MCU would be welcomed by fans. Even if it was just to see some of those sweet, sweet, dance moves. Here’s what he had to say on Justin Hammer’s potential in the MCU:
[box_light]“Ah! I was hoping to come back in one of the Avengers films and come after Gwyneth Paltrow, because that’s what they set up, that I was going to get revenge on Gwyneth for getting me arrested or something. I could do a Cape Fear thing with Gwyneth. But they’ve got a lot of mojo in there already, so I don’t know if they need another pirate like me in the mix there! [Laughs.] Maybe S.H.I.E.L.D. is the way to go.”[/box_light]
If he were to reprise his role on Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D, it would only add to the potnetial greatness of the series Agent Coulson fans are dying to see.
Next up is The Pacifier himself, Vin Diesel, who recently announced some ‘news’ on his Facebook page:
[box_light]Marvel has requested a meeting… no idea what for… haha, you probably know better than me…[/box_light]
No, you presumptuous bald guy, we don’t. However, based on the fact that the announcement was coupled with an image of Diesel ‘Water Flying’ (check the link), this leads us to speculate that it may be for a role in the long-rumored Namor the Sub-Mariner.
Probably not, though. Water Flying sure looks fun, doesn’t it? Moving on.
Finally we have the latest rumor on Doctor Strange, who is apparently being groomed as the new star of the MCU. Strange will be taking the torch from Robert Downey Jr’s Iron Man and spearhead Marvel’s next few phases. This comes from ComicBookMovie‘s unnamed source, who had this to say:
“What I can say is that Strange is being groomed to be the next Iron Man. The studio needs a new ‘hub’ character going into Phase 3 and beyond, as there is audience fatigue, aging stars and a need to move from Tony Stark/Iron Man as a ‘hub’ for films.”
This is actually a pretty great idea, considering the wide array of characters left to get the big screen treatments, especially the various heroes more specifically connected to Doctor Strange. Heroes like The Defenders, who have operated as a mystical, cosmic, ass-kicking team for years and featured some serious heavy hitters like Silver Surfer, Hulk, Namor, and more. With the world building continuing on the cosmic side of the MCU with the Guardians of the Galaxy, Doctor Strange could open a number of doors for an all new side of the MCU to get the big screen treatment.
Obviously we will learn more at SDCC this year, which has a few rumored announcements regarding some upcoming Phase Three films from Marvel Studios. Keep checking back here in the weeks to come for more news and developments with the MCU!
