We have been hearing a ton of rumors for everything related to Marvel Studios recently, whether it’s Vin Diesel’s possible upcoming role in the MCU, or a star for Edgar Wright’s Ant-Man, so today’s rumors can be added to those as possible or possibly not going to happen.
The biggest rumor of the last few days seems to center around the new alleged tentpole of the MCU, Doctor Strange. The rumor (like most of them lately) comes from Latino-Review, and claims that Marvel Studios want Joseph Gordon-Levitt as the Sorcerer Supreme, the Master of the Mystic Arts, The One Goatee to Rule Them All, Dr. Stephen Strange. Here’s what LR had to say:
[box_dark]”Now at press time, we are not saying that an offer has been made, that talks have even engaged and who knows, Levitt and his team are probably unaware, BUT we are hearing that Marvel execs internally are discussing that Levitt is who they figure would be ideal.”[/box_dark]
So basically this is what one ‘source’ is saying Marvel wants, despite zero proof of talks between the actor and studio and any confirmation from either (unless you count this denial from JGL’s camp). However, it is interesting, as JGL would probably do the role justice. But really, JGL can pretty much do any role justice. Whether or not he is the right fit for Dr. Strange is up in the air, so we will wait to speculate on this until we hear a bit more.
The next part of today’s Rumor Report is actually a bit more intriguing and has to do with the rumored Hulk solo movie that fans have been dying to see since Mark Ruffalo made Bruce Banner cool again in The Avengers. This rumor comes from ComicBookMovie and is actually pretty exciting. While earlier rumors threw some comic stories like Planet Hulk and World War Hulk into the solo movie ring, this states that the film may take a page out of Mark Waid’s current Indestructible Hulk series.
This would be perfect for a solo Hulk film, as it relies as much on Bruce Banner’s role in the story as it does the Hulk. Basically the Marvel NOW series has Banner working for S.H.I.E.L.D. with his own little think tank, working on all the science stuff he can handle with little interference from S.H.I.E.L.D. or anyone. It shows Banner using his brain to the best of his ability and helping the world, which also helps him atone for some of the mistakes the’ other guy’ has made in the past. The one catch is that S.H.I.E.L.D. then gets full reign to use the Hulk as they see fit, which usually means dropping him into hostile territory and letting him run wild.
This would make an excellent premise for a film, giving us some amazing Hulk moments while allowing Mark Ruffalo to remain a large part of the move as Banner. Out of these two rumors, we would love to see the Indestructible Hulk storyline on the big screen as opposed to JGL taking on the role of Dr. Strange.
What do you think? Would you like to see JGL as the Sorcerer Supreme? Would the Indestructible Hulk storyline work well as a movie? Sound off in the comments section below!
