With the success of Marvel properties being turned into movies (such as Iron Man, Captain America and The Avengers) fans have been hungry for more. When ABC dropped the Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., it opened up new doors when the show became a modest hit. Seeing the increasing popularity of these Marvel-tinged movies and shows, Netflix has ordered four Marvel shows to premiere on their streaming service.
The four shows are going to be based on some popular characters within the Marvel universe. Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Iron Fist and Luke Cage are the heroes slated to be on Netflix in that order. Daredevil has been one of my favorite heroes and I want to see Netflix do this one justice. Everyone remembers the travesty that was the Daredevil movie with Ben Affleck blindly (in more ways than one) wandering around as Matt Murdock. The folks over at Marvel have assured us that it will take place in Hell’s Kitchen and will be as dark and gritty as the fans remember. These shows are going to be produced by Marvel Television Studios in association with ABC.
What make things better are that after all these shows begin their run, there is going to be another mini-series event produced for Netflix. The concept is going to be The Defenders which is going to be a team of heroic characters (like The Avengers) that get together to…well…defend those in need. Basically, it’s following the Marvel movie model of establishing the characters before one mega-hit event that brings them all together. The big questions of course are who is going to be on the team and who/what are they going to face? Right now details are very sketchy but two of the heroes I would love to see brought to the screen, in addition to the four announced heroes, is Valkyrie. Why? She is a badass warrior that has a flying horse!
Of course, it will be awhile before these shows start airing (tentative release being 2015) so keep it tuned here for future updates!
