The time for the first Furious 7 trailer is upon us.
Who would have imagined that The Fast and the Furious would spawn one of the most successful franchises of the past decade plus? They couldn’t get Vin Diesel to come back for a second movie and now, led by Diesel and the late Paul Walker, the series of movies continues to defy gravity and capture audiences’ glee when the cars invade the box office. Ditching the full title, the newly renamed Furious 7 looks to expand with the inclusion of villain Jason Statham and adds the great Kurt Russell into the mix, as well as get a new director in James Wan to take over the reins.
Starring most of the old crew from the last few movies (sorry, Gal Gadot and Sung Kang, Tokyo finally caught up to you) the story picks up after the events of both Fast & Furious 6 and Tokyo Drift. Han is dead and it looks like Shaw (the villain from the sixth film) had a brother named Ian (Jason Statham) who is willing to track and hunt down every last one of the gang to avenge his dead brother. With that, we get this trailer of the team taking down an armored bus…by jumping out of a cargo airplane…with their cars. Not quite the world’s longest 13 mile runway, but close.
A lot of people are returning this one to join Diesel and Walker. Michelle Rodriguez, Jordana Brewster, Tyrese Gibson, The Rock, and LUDA! Even Tokyo Drift’s Lucas Black is back into the fold. No word on Nikki Griffin‘s Tokyo Drift connected cameo yet. Of course, the new faces to the franchise are led by Jason Statham and Kurt Russell, but Tony Jaa, Game of Thrones’ Nathalie Emmanuel, Djimon Hounsou and Ronda Rousey are there too.
Of course, this also marks the last film that Paul Walker will be in as he died in a tragic car crash last year in the middle of filming. After a delay in the production and tinkering of the script, the filmmakers were able to complete the film with the help of his brothers as stand-ins and making sure Walker will get a proper send off in the film. The film will be released in April 3rd, 2015 and from the looks of the trailer, we’re going to get another adrenaline pumped entry to the series that can’t seem to slow down.
