Suicide Squad Cast Announced: Tom Hardy, Will Smith, Jared Leto & More!

Like all cinematic news these days, there’s been quite the stir of speculation for the cast of WB’s follow-up to Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, but the web damn near broke today in response to the star-studded cast announced for Suicide Squad.

Reports earlier this month pointed to Jared Leto as a possible candidate for the Joker, but with today’s news it’s been confirmed that the Dallas Buyer’s Club star will officially join the lineup as Joker. The official roster includes Jared Leto as The Joker, Will Smith as Deadshot, Tom Hardy as Rick Flagg, Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn, Jai Courtney as Boomerang and Cara Delevigne as Enchantress.

Say what you will about the line-up, but you can’t deny the star power of the cast. The project will be directed as an Ocean’s Eleven of the comic book world featuring a rag-tag group of criminals on the path to redemption by completing dangerous missions for the government.  And the Ocean’s Eleven idea isn’t too far-fetched, considering both George Clooney and Don Cheadle have worn the cape and tights, albeit with nipple suits and stolen Stark tech armor.

The only character missing is Amanda Waller (as seen on CW’s Arrow) and Warner Bros. is possibly interested in Viola Davis, Octavia Spencer and Oprah Winfrey as potential candidates.

Oprah Winfrey

“The Warner Bros. roots are deep on this one,” Warner Bros. president Greg Silverman said in a statement. “We look forward to seeing this terrific ensemble, under David Ayer’s amazing guidance, give new meaning to what it means to be a villain and what it means to be a hero.”

Now, Will Smith, Jared Leto and Tom Hardy are no amateurs to the world of cinema (hey, it’s Bane!), but some of the roster may be unfamiliar to you.

Cara Delevigne (Anna Karenina), Marc Jacobs muse/high-fashion model turned actress, is landing several big acting gigs, including a mermaid in the new Pan film starring Hugh Jackman as Black Beard. Australian actor Jai Courtney can be seen in Spartacus: Blood and Sand and A Good Day to Die Hard, and will star in the upcoming Angelina Jolie directed flick Unbroken. Margot Robbie, another Australian added to the mix, is a newer actress that you may recognize from Wolf of Wall Street. Fangirls may be green with envy, as the newcomer will star opposite Alexander Skarsgård as Jane in the David Yates directed Tarzan.

Quite the roster, no? We’re not  sure what this means for Batman v. Superman:Dawn of Justice, (cameos, anyone?)  but it’s safe to say DC just upped the ante with this cast reveal. 2016 can not get here fast enough.
