Star Wars news has been hitting hard and fast over the last few weeks as we get closer to the release of Episode VII: The Force Awakens. We’ve seen trailers, announced spinoffs like Star Wars Anthology: Rogue One, and of course who could forget the Amy Schumer/Star Wars photo shoot that riled up Lucasfilm.
The latest bit of news we’ve received is still pretty heavy in rumor territory, but it’s a very interesting rumor. According to The Wrap, it looks like the villain role from Episode VIII has been offered to fan-favorite actor Benicio Del Toro (Snatch, The Usual Suspects). Obviously we don’t have any information on this role, seeing as how we barely have any information on one of Episode VII’s villains Rylo Ken, played by Adam Driver.
Star Wars Episode VIII is set for release in 2017, following The Force Awakens this year and Rogue One in 2016. Episode VIII will be written and directed by Rian Johnson (Brick, Looper), who will take the reigns from J.J. Abrams as Star Wars begins to take over the cinema for the next few years.
What do you think of Benicio del Toro joining the Star Wars universe? Is this a bit of Disney overload for the actor (who previously worked for the company during Marvel Studios’ Guardians of the Galaxy) or is that just to be expected considering the mega companies many fingered productions?
