Supergirl: Red Tornado, Livewire and New Footage

The Supergirl television series is mere weeks away, and anticipation has continued to build since that first trailer back in May. Now news of several characters who’ll be in the show is emerging at superspeed from various newsfeeds.

Livewire, a foe of Superman, will be electrifying the show as one of Maid of Might’s foes. Civilian Leslie Willis, an “abrasive and funny shock-jock”, will gain superpowers in a freak accident which she’ll use to go on a crime spree (naturally) throughout National City. Obviously this won’t sit well with Supergirl. Expect a battle royal between these two formidable females.

Livewire was first introduced back in 1997 in the comic book, Superman Adventures #5 (above). She later fought the Man of Steel in the Superman: The Animated Series on TV. Actress Brit Morgan from True Blood will play the highly charged supervillain.

The Red Tornado is the next highly anticipated super to be spinning into the series. Show producers Warner Bros. describes him as;

“…Red Tornado is the most advanced android the world has ever seen. Designed by scientist T.O. Morrow for the U.S. Army as the ultimate super weapon, he soon becomes sentient, posing a grave danger to National City — including the people Supergirl cares about most.”

Iddo Goldberg, who plays Isaac Walton in the supernatural show, Salem, plays not only the android but his creator/scientist as well.

Red Tornado made its first appearance in Justice League of America #64. Created by the supervillain T.O. Morrow to defeat the JLA, he later joined their ranks in numerous incarnations of the League. He has also shown up in various animated series including Young Justice, Batman: The Brave and the Bold, and (unsurprisingly) Justice League Unlimited.

First appearance as Red Tornado, Justice League of America #64, 1968. That’s two months before Marvel debuted The Vision in The Avengers #57 (though both characters have roots going back further).

So what do you think of these two new additions to Supergirl’s growing cast?

Leave your comments below. And come back later to give your thoughts when they make their first screen appearances on the series.

Be sure to check out the Supergirl Trailerand if we’re watching trailers you might as well give Legends of Tomorrow another watch. As for other DCEU news did you hear about Booster Gold And Blue Beetle On The Big Screen? Because Amanda sure did, and she won’t shut up about it.
