The first trailer for Joel and Ethan Coen’s new film Hail, Caesar! was recently released and is a meta-comedy starring pretty much everyone in Hollywood.
Check out the first trailer:
In typical Coen fashion, the real surprise will come when you actually see the film. What’s going on with the elitist kidnappers called “The Future,” and how much is George Clooney’s character really in on it (or lack there of)?. Clooney has starred as more bumbling bafoons in Coen brothers’ films than any other actor and he’s getting damn good at it too.
Other Coen regulars Josh Brolin, Tilda Swinton, and Frances McDormand join Scarlett Johansson, Channing Tatum, Jonah Hill and Ralph Fiennes in an ensemble cast that could easily be sold as “Hail, Caesar!: A Coen Brothers film staring Hollywood.” The story is set in Hollywood during the latter days of the golden age. It revolves around a fixer, played by Brolin, who must find the kidnapped star of a big new movie, also called Hail, Caesar!.
The film also features eighties superstars Christopher Lambert, Fisher Stevens and Dolph Lundgren, as a Soviet submarine commander.
Hail, Caesar! has been in production since 2004, and was originally centered around a troupe of 1920s actors putting on a show about ancient Rome. The Coens’ intended it to be the final part of what the they saw as a trilogy of comic films dating from 2000’s O’Brother, Where Art Thou? and Intolerable Cruelty, but that third entry ended up being Burn After Reading which was the follow-up to their Oscar-winning No Country For Old Men.
This comedy is the Coens’ follow-up to their beguilingly brilliant, semi-biographical film Inside Llewyn Davis.
The film will be released in theaters on February 5.
