Daredevil: First Season 2 Images Reveal Punisher and Elektra

It doesn’t seem that long ago that we were waiting patiently for the release of the first season of Daredevil on Netflix. The first of the planned Defenders series from Marvel and Daredevil, the geek world saw a mass binge watch when the whole series was released. After only a few days most of us were finished the series and already pining for more from Hell’s Kitchen.

Season 2 was announced pretty quickly following the success of Daredevil, and we learned about some new additions to the cast while we made ourselves ready for the second series in Netflix’s little corner of the MCU, Jessica JonesIt was revealed that both the Punisher and Elektra would be featuring in the second season, played by Jon Bernthal and Elodie Yung, respectively.

While we’ve seen a few pictures of Bernthal as Frank Castle from the set, today we received our first official images of the characters from Entertainment Weekly, whom also released the official images yesterday of Benedict Cumberbatch as Doctor Strange. We’ll take a look at the pictures after the jump.

These first images show a closeness developing between Matt Murdock and Karen Page (Charlie Cox and Deborah Ann Woll), our first look at a very casual Elektra with a tidbit of info from the magazine article, and finally a kickass shot of both Castle and Daredevil, in a very familiar looking scene.

The image of Daredevil chained up while Punisher presumably carries out his business can be seen in the comics as well, though we can’t yet tell if the situation is the same.

Daredevil Chained

As for how the second season will compare to the first, EW spoke with the new showrunners Doug Petrie and Marco Ramirez about their continuation of the series and how the Punisher fit into their narrative.

“The advantage of any sequel is you can dive right in,” Petrie says. “We hit the ground running and then we ran as fast as we f—ing could… Viewers watching the show will be rooting for this guy with a gun but we’re also going to force people — the way we force Matt — to second-guess themselves… Taking lethal justice into your own hands in America in 2015 is tricky s–t. We have not shied away from the rich complicated reality of Now. If you’ve got a gun and you’re not the police you’re going to incite strong feelings. We’re stirring the pot and we’re aware of the headlines where we live and we’re trying to get people to think.”

Daredevil season 2 will drop sometime in 2016.
