X-Force: Possible Team Lineup Revealed?

Are you excited for Deadpool? I know I am, and most people I talk to certainly are excited as well. Here’s the thing though. With the rise of Deadpool came something of a casualty as well that most people aren’t thinking about – The Death of X-Force.

Maybe death is a little premature. After all, we are here to talk about some concept art from the film that finally reveals the team we might have seen on the big screen, but let’s back up.

deadpool-poster-4A cinematic adaptation of X-Force first began gaining some traction when it was revealed that Jeff Wadlow would be writing and directing the X-spinoff for Fox. His script was praised by both Mark Millar – who Wadlow worked with on Kick-Ass 2 – as well as X-Force creator Rob Liefeld. There were rumors about the film and the five-person team we might see, and news was starting to drop in pretty fast.

Then the Deadpool test footage leaked, the Internet exploded, and Fox changed gears a bit. Suddenly Deadpool was finally happening and Ryan Reynolds was happy again. Unfortunately all X-news then focused on either the main trilogy of films (which we can expect to conclude with the upcoming X-Men: Apocalypse) or the two new buzz-worthy spinoffs with Deadpool and Gambit.

New Mutants

Following these was even the announcement that a script was being put together for a New Mutants film by Josh Boone, which is pretty much the final nail in the coffin for X-Force, considering a lot of that team’s comic origin is rooted in the development of the New Mutants team.

With that being said, the recent leaked concept art has our tongues wagging at the thought of this movie actually being made. Let’s take a look at the image, which allegedly reveals the five person team that was initially rumored.

X-Force Concept

In this image we see the time travelling militaristic mutant leader Nathan Summers AKA Cable alongside his frequent partner Neena Thurman AKA Domino. Joining them is James Proudstar AKA Warpath, who we last saw in X-Men: Days of Future Past. Rocketing through the air is Sam Guthrie AKA Cannonball, a long-time student of Cable’s and a graduate of the New Mutants.

Which brings us to the final member of the team, the hooded female. There have been a few ideas put forward about her identity. Some think this might be X-23, the female clone of Wolverine who has served as a member of X-Force before. Other thoughts include Theresa Rourke AKA Siryn, daughter of X-Men: First Class‘ Banshee. Another option, which I think might be the most plausible, is the hooded female will be Tabitha Smith AKA Boom-Boom AKA Boomer AKA Meltdown. Another New Mutant graduate and frequent romantic partner to Cannonball, her presence on the team would further tie in the New Mutants with the other members of the X-Force while bringing in a fun and explosive personality to play off the other characters.

We can hope that this single image might produce enough buzz to get the wheels rolling on this adaptation again, especially with Deadpool‘s best pal (Cable) already proving how much the fan reaction can affect a studios plans.
