As The X-Files Return, Talk About Possible Third Movie Emerges

The truth is out there.

And X-Philes are eagerly awaiting the new six-episode miniseries set to premiere with an epic two-part extravaganza Jan 24 and 25, but will six episodes be enough? While excitement is reaching fever pitch over the upcoming mini-series, and Fox is doing all it can to fuel it. Doyoustillbelieve.com gives fans the first minute of the premiere. Viewers are treated to a run down of the entirety of the X-Files series, which means both fans and non-fans can jump right in on episode one without loosing out too much on the overall gist of the story. Of course, nothing wrong with re-watching the series (It’s on Netflix).

From the looks of the first minute, it appears show runners have opted to gloss over the last few seasons of the original show, when a contract dispute saw a hasty departure of David Duchovny’s character and the series lead Agent Fox Mulder.

Here are the show’s leads and crew discussing some of the behind the scenes involved in bringing the show back.

A return to the X-Files as fans knew and loved them could bring back that old feeling of will they or wont they. While Gillian Anderson, who played Agent Dana Scully, pointed out at the 2013 Comic-Con that the duo ” had a kid,” it’s never been clear if they actually…put the flying disc in Area 51.

Jimmy Kimmel joined in the buzz about the shows return in a skit featuring the shows stars. He reminds us all of the very real struggle of logging on to the internet via AOL, and throws in a plea that the two just do it already!

So, DO people still want the X-Files? That is the question on at least Chris Carter’s mind. The show creator, who admits his flaws in the past when it comes to the way the franchise was handled, wants to give fans what they want.

“If there is a third movie it’s got to be a gigantic movie. It would have to be a big-budget movie; that’s what X-Files fans want. We tried to do a very small movie about faith the second time out. And it was released in the middle of summer tent pole movies. It was a misstep in that way. I think [a third movie] has to be more like the first movie.”

Carter went on to comment that Fox need only ask and he is ready to provide;

“I’m waiting for Fox to come back and ask for more. Then we’ll talk about it.”

Carter also admitted that he has already written a third movie. A strong audience response to the mini-series could easily translate into that production moving forward.

While Kimmel’s gag on the 90’s is good for a chuckle, it does bring up a point about the biggest hurdle the show will face, technology. Advancements in not only smart phones, but in forensic technology, mean the show is going to have a different vibe. What will the team be like with access to satellite cameras and hours of CCTV? Will a new science savvy generation believe?
