Thor: Ragnarok Rumors and a Possible Villain Revealed?

Of all the upcoming Marvel films Thor: Ragnarok seems to be the hardest to find a lead on. Up until now most of the news for the next Thor film has been rumors. The movie doesnt come out for another year and a half so I suppose that’s fair.

However, the new rumor (which is most likely true, and they are just waiting to sign the papers) is that Cate Blanchett will be cast as the main villain – Hela, Goddess of Death.

LOTR The Two Towers 089

As the rumor goes, Hela is the ruler of Hel and the realm of Niflheim, and she has come to team up with Loki (her father) in order to unleash her power, and presumably take over the Nine Realms. So far all the information we have is from the comics, which doesn’t necessarily leave us much, depending on how much of the movie storyline is original. However, one detail that has been circulating is that not only will Hela be a mighty foe of Thor to take on, he will have to do it without Mjolnir, according to Geek.com:

According to our sources, when Thor confronts Hela, things do not go well. Not only does she banish Thor from Asgard, but she destroys Mjolnir!

Hela

This banishment could set up Thor on his galactic way to meet Hulk, as we know Mark Ruffalo is confirmed for the film.

Additionally, there is speculation that as the physical embodiment of death, Hela could have the ultimate big baddie Thanos lusting after her. This would set Hela up for the two Avengers: Infinity War movies. With an actress like Blanchett, it’s hard not to want her in all the movies.

These new developments seem really interesting, as I am a sucker for all things mythological and lore based, and I am really excited for this film. Plus more Loki, what do I have to complain about? There will obviously be more developments over the next year so stay tuned to GrizzlyBomb for all the news and rumors from Thor: Ragnarok!
