Sicario 2 Gets A New Title And An Intense New Trailer

Sony’s new trailer for Sicario: Day Of The Soldado with Benicio Del Toro, returning as undercover operative Alejandro Gillick, and Josh Brolin, back as CIA agent Matt Graver, is all about going to war. The sequel to  Denis Villeneuve’s celebrated crime drama gets a new, more sequel-friendly title, and an incredibly menacing new trailer. It’s war on everyone this time.

USAToday reveals the plot of Sicario: Day Of Soldado revolves around Del Toro’s character Alejandro being “hired again by CIA operative Matt Graver (Josh Brolin) to start a war between dueling cartels by kidnapping Isabela Reyes (Isabela Moner), the teenage daughter of infamous kingpin Carlos Reyes. When the mission is exposed, and Graver orders Alejandro to terminate Isabela, the killer’s cold façade cracks.”

It’s in this latest trailer that the official name is revealed for the film. Soldado is Spanish for soldier, so the title of the film is aptly named “Day of the Soldier” further focusing on Del Toro’s Alejandro character. The first trailer contains all the trappings of classic action films with intense sound design and quick cuts of incredibly staged violence courtesy of the film’s new director. There is much more to Alejandro and his world and with Sicario: Day Of The Soldado we’ll get a deeper look into both.

Stefano Sollima (the man behind an equally celebrated crime drama, Gomorrah) steps behind the camera as director with original screenwriter Taylor Sheridan — who also wrote Hell Or High Water and helmed last year’s Wind River – returning to pen the script.

With Emily Blunt not returning for the follow-up to 2015’s Sicario, the two actors take the spotlight in the latest trailer for Sicario: Day of the Soldado. The two find themselves back in the middle of the violent war against drugs along the United States-Mexico border.

“I think the characters are faced with more decisions, more forks in the road,” Del Toro revealed in an interview with EW. “I could say the same for Josh’s character and for Alejandro. They have to make decisions that are more difficult.”

The rest of the cast includes Matthew Modine, Catherine Keener, Manuel Garcia-Rulfo, and Jeffrey Donovan.
