Coming off his monumental year that ended with an Oscar nomination for Best Actor in Call Me By Your Name, Timothée Chalamet is gearing up for another great year with next fall’s Beautiful Boy, co-starring Steve Carrell. Perhaps less so is this simultaneous theatrical and VOD release from A24 called Hot Summer Nights, 1980s set edgy teen drama which just unveiled its first trailer.
Set in Cape Cod over one scorching summer, Hot Summer Nights follows Daniel (Chalamet), a shy out-of-towner who gets in over his head flipping weed with the neighborhood rebel (Roe) while pursuing his new business partner’s enigmatic sister (Monroe). With a hurricane looming in the wings, tensions rise against a backdrop of drive-ins, arcades, and crashed parties as the stakes (and temperatures) grow ever higher.
Check out the trailer for Hot Summer Nights:
This trailer is all set to a propulsive and stylish beat that really gives it that clear, edgy teen drama; light years away from the Italian countryside of Call Me By Your Name. The film seems to fit nicely into A24’s growing slate of visually distinct coming-of-age stories, from Spring Breakers to the Oscar-nominated Lady Bird.
Hot Summer Nights also Maika Monroe (It Follows, Independence Day: Resurgence) and Alex Roe (The 5th Wave, Rings) and is written and directed by Elijah Bynum.

Hot Summer Nights will be available exclusively on DIRECTV June 28 and in theaters July 27.
