MGM unveiled a harrowing first trailer for Operation Finale, the historical thriller starring Oscar Isaac (Star Wars: The Last Jedi) and Ben Kingsley (Iron Man 3). The drama is about the hunt and capture of the Nazi war criminal, Adolf Eichmann, in Argentina in the 1960s. Oscar Isaac stars as Peter Malkin, the Mossad member and head of a group of Israeli spies who took him down. Eichmann had murdered Malkin’s sister and her children and was the organizer of the transport of Jews to concentration camps in Europe. He escaped to Austria and then to Argentina after WWII.
Check out the first trailer for Operation Finale below:
Based on Malkin’s true story, the film charts his course to South America in 1960, when Adolf Eichmann (Ben Kingsley) flees post-war Europe after orchestrating transportation plans that carried millions of Jews to their deaths as part of the Final Solution.
Malkin joins the search after Eichmann’s trail goes cold in 1946, but signs suggest he has reappeared in Buenos Aires. And the trailer teases what appears to be a particularly chilling exchange between the pair during the resulting mouse hunt.
Back in November of 2016, MGM bought the untitled spec script that would become Operation Finale. At the time, Chris Weitz was in talks to direct the film and by March 2017, Oscar Isaac came aboard to star and co-produce and production got underway in Argentina by October of 2017.
Weitz is the writer of 2015’s Cinderella and 2016’s Rogue One: A Star Wars Story as well as the director of films like About A Boy, The Golden Compass, and The Twilight Saga: New Moon.
The film also stars Lior Raz, Melanie Laurent (Inglorious Basterds), Nick Kroll (The League), Joe Alwyn (Billy Lynn’s Long Halftime Walk), Haley Lu Richardson (The Edge Of Seventeen), Michael Aronov, Ohad Knoller, Greg Hill, Torben Liebrecht, Mike Hernandez, Greta Scacchi and Pêpê Rapazote.
Operation Finale is set to open on September 14.
