In case you missed it, the trailer for The Man Who Killed Hitler and then The Bigfoot dropped the other day, and it looks stellar.
Sam Elliott plays Calvin Barr, the name who covertly killed Hitler, and is now being asked to come out of retirement to take on humanity’s next biggest threat, Bigfoot.
The film is currently carrying an 85% on RottenTomatoes, and 100% in my heart. The concept, paired with the casting of Sam Elliot, has made this a ‘must-see’ in my book, though I admit now it’ll be hard for it to meet my expectations.
The idea of hunting Bigfoot isn’t new, but the motivation is a lot more interesting here. In most shows of movies, the hunt for Bigfoot is undertaken with the goal of fame and riches in mind, or because some kids went missing in the woods and the creature is an easy scapegoat. But here, acting as the carrier of a disease that threatens all of humanity, it gives us another angle to approach the story from.
In addition to Sam Elliot, the cast includes Office Space star Ron Livingston as the man apparently sent to recruit Mr. Barr back into service. Though he’s never quite received the notoriety he should, Livingston does remain consistently employed and has really shined in several projects such as The Conjuring and Band of Brothers.
Another recognizable face for many would be the barber, played by long-time character actor Larry Miller. Usually playing a sleazy businessman or clueless father, Miller has well over a hundred acting credits to his name, including 10 Things I Hate About You and Kiss Kiss Bang Bang.
In the flashback shots, the younger Calvin Barr was portrayed by Aidan Turner, who fantasy fans might know better as Kili in The Hobbit trilogy. And the pretty lady that appears to be at the heart of his regrets is Caitlin FitzGerald (Masters of Sex), and likely symbolizes the life he could have had. The sixth face on the poster (below) is that of Rizwan Manji, credited simply as “Maple Leaf.” Manji is a Canadian character actor who’s appeared in a ton of popular shows, including Arrested Development, 24, It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia, Goliath, Mr. Robot, The Magicians, and Schitt’s Creek – to name a few.
Written and directed by newcomer Robert Krzykowski, the movie premiered at the Fantasia Film Festival in Montreal last summer and was picked up by RLJE Films for distribution.
The Man Who Killed Hitler and then The Bigfoot hits theaters on February 8, 2019.
