An extended official trailer has debuted for the doc Pennywise: The Story of IT. Originally broadcast as a mini-series shown over two-parts, produced for ABC back in 1990 and receiving around 30 million views in its initial debut, the movie has become a cult classic.
In the documentary, viewers will get an insider’s look at the making of the horror miniseries as they watch cast members reflect on being part of King’s story and Tim Curry’s incredibly freaky performance as Pennywise. This documentary will look at his legacy as well as the film at large. Other actors, including Seth Green and Emily Perkins, discuss favorite set moments and why Pennywise remains and will remain, one of the most terrifying, unforgettable horror characters of all time.

Based on the footage from the extended trailer above, it’s clear this documentary is a labor of love for the filmmaker and others involved. The new doc will also include over 2 hours of never-before-seen set footage from SFX wizard Bart Mixon, as well as loads of archival and behind-the-scenes photos. Pennywise: The Story of IT will cover as much of the production and legacy of the original TV film as possible.
This new doc comes from filmmaker Chris Griffiths, who brought us other horror history documentaries like You’re So Cool, Brewster! The Story of Fright Night and RoboDoc: The Creation of Robocop, plus plenty of shorts and other film history projects. Pennywise: The Story of IT started out as a crowdfund on IndieGoGo in the UK, and has been in development since 2017. It’s finally seeing the light of day.
