Stranger Things 3 Final Trailer Celebrates The Summer With Horrific Dangers

Netflix has delivered a final trailer for Stranger Things 3 that gives us a few more hints of how things are going in 1985-era Hawkins, Indiana this season. The series returns to Netflix on July 4th.

The kids – Eleven (Millie Bobby Brown), Mike (Finn Wolfhard), Lucas (Caleb McLaughlin), Max (Sadie Sink), Will (Noah Schnapp) and Dustin (Gaten Matarazzo) – are growing up, hanging at the amusement park, hitting the mall, and fighting off fiendish evil from the Upside Down. Stranger Things 3 also sees the returns of stars Winona Ryder as Joyce Byers, David Harbour as Chief Jim Hopper, as well as newcomers Maya Thurman-Hawke as Robin, Jake Busey as Bruce, Francesca Reale as Heather, and Cary Elwes as Mayor Kline.

This trailer gives us a lot more beats to this season’s offerings. The official first trailer was dropped months ago but this new, and final, trailer ups the stakes and makes everything feel even more apocalyptic than usual. By the end, the trailer is filled with action sequences, bloodied heroes, and roaring monsters forcing the kids to take cover behind a bevy of smashed-up cars. The trailer looks like this season will bring in a lot more 80s nostalgia from films like Ghostbusters as well as some more contemporary 90s Amblin-like fare such as Jurassic Park. It also appears that someone might end up serving as a new host for the evil that lurks in the Upside Down, but that’s not the only challenge. “It’s building something,” Eleven says. What horrors await the townsfolk of Hawkins as we see the return of what has to be the streaming equivalent of Game of Thrones for Netflix at this point.

Creators, the Duffer brothers, were rumored to have shot multiple seasons at once, but that hasn’t been the case yet. It’s unsure just how long Stranger Things can keep going at this point, given an audience’s suspension of disbelief that a town could endure this many crazy horrific events in the space of a few years, but there is always room to grow if you have the right talent behind the camera. Shooting multiple seasons could hinder that gestation period needed to actually nail an entire season of episodes to tell an enthralling, entertaining, and satisfying story.
