Crisis On Infinite Earths

[SDCC 2019] Arrowverse’s Crisis On Infinite Earths, Burt Ward, & Batwoman Trailer

Producers of the DC franchise on the CW are planning a few big surprises involving the Man of Steel and a former Robin!

Two actors who have played the Man of Steel, Tyler Hoechlin and Brandon Routh, will portray him in different time frames while Burt Ward, best known for playing Robin on the 1960s Batman TV show, will appear on Batwoman. All will be incorporated as part of the Arrowverse “Crisis on Infinite Earths” crossover event.

Routh, who played Superman in the 2006 Bryan Singer-directed feature Superman Returns, will portray both Clark Kent and his Legends of Tomorrow character, Ray Palmer AKA the Atom. “It’s an opportunity for me to kind of say hello and goodbye to the character in a way I didn’t get to the first time,” Routh told Entertainment Weekly at SDCC. “Being a young individual of 24, 25, I thought, ‘Oh, I’m going to do this for years and make multiple movies.’ And that, of course, didn’t happen. I’m just very honored to be able to do this one last time.”

Tyler Hoechlin, who has been playing Kara Danvers’ older cousin, Superman, for years on the show Supergirl. Only making sporadic appearances to help out when her world comes under fire, Hoechlin last appeared as Superman in last year’s crossover event “Elseworlds,” which also introduced Batwoman to The CW’s Arrowverse.

Batwoman

Speaking of Batwoman, Burt Ward, who played Robin alongside Adam West’s Batman on the iconic 60s TV show, and has continued to lend his voice to the role over the years, will be making an appearance in the Arrowverse. Let the speculation begin as to who Ward may be portraying on Batwoman. Many would probably guess he might be playing a grown-up version of the original Dick Grayson. However, it remains to be seen if that is the case. The Arrowverse has certainly toyed with legacy casting in the past, with Lynda Carter, Dean Cain, and Helen Slater all playing new characters within the universe. The Flash even brought back Mark Hamill as The Trickster as well as John Wesley-Shipp, who has played both his Barry Allen from the 1990s The Flash TV series and a new iteration of Jay Garrick.

Hush Batman

In addition to the news of Ward’s appearance in the Arrowverse, It was revealed that the upcoming season will feature an origin story for the Batman villain Hush. “The character of Tommy Elliot … ultimately becomes the supervillain Hush, but we’re seeing his origins of why he hates Batman so much,” Dries said after the pilot screening.

The CW dropped another teaser trailer for Batwoman, which you can check out below:

The show will feature Ruby Rose’s Kate Kane/Batwoman, first introduced during the Arrowverse crossover event “Elseworlds.” Camrus Johnson, Rachel Skarsten, Meagan Tandy and Nicole Kang have also been cast.

“Crisis on Infinite Earths,” will unite the entire Arrowverse series franchise – Arrow, The Flash, Supergirl, DC’s Legends of Tomorrow and Batwoman – in a five-episode epic that will span two quarters, with three episodes airing in December and the two concluding installments debuting in January. Batwoman is set to debut October 6 on The CW.
