Porno Trailer: A ’90s-Set Horror-Comedy That’s Absolutely Bonkers

Fangoria and Shudder has released the first trailer for the horror-comedy Porno.

The film follows a group of seemingly wholesome young movie theatre employees being tempted and terrorized by a sex demon. The film made a huge impression on attendees at SXSW before going on to land even bigger distribution deals.

Perhaps not intended for the squeamish or tight-collared folks, Porno is full-on horror-comedy that takes aim at the dirtiest (and stickiest) aspects of Grindhouse cinema. Porno takes place in an old school movie theater during the early ’90s. Four teenage staffers and a cranky older projectionist discover a hidden archive full of dusty film reels, they fire up the projector on what appears to be a softcore porn/horror film. it isn’t long before the bloody brunette from the film is unleashed into the real world, and they find themselves in an epic battle with the seductive sex demon.

Check out the trailer for Porno below:

The film is a gonzo display of humor and horror as the gang is haunted by the sex demon in a series of outlandish homages to classic Grindhouse and direct-to-video horror films of yesteryear. The trailer showcases a bevy of genre tropes such as J-horror, Spanish-softcore porn films, and meta-horror films like The Final Girls, The Editor, or recent season of American Horror Story: 1984 – but much, much…much crazier. “Sleaze ready to be launched into the stratosphere” is how director Keola Racela described it.

The cast includes Evan Daves, Larry Saperstein, Jillian Mueller, Glenn Stott, Robert Tann, Bill Phillips, Katelyn Pearce, and Peter Reznikoff. Matt Black and Laurence Vannicelli penned the screenplay.

The film announced an exciting new voice when it premiered at last year’s SXSW Film Festival. Keola Racela began his career as an editor and genre buff but after Porno that’s likely to change for him. Fangoria, the genre brand owned by Dallas-based entertainment outfit Cinestate, picked up the film’s world distribution rights. Fangoria will distribute the film theatrically in the U.S. in April. It also sold SVOD rights in North America to AMC Networks’ Shudder, where it will debut later this year for subscribers to stream whenever you like.
