Rumor Time: Netflix Sitting On Alien Vs. Predator Anime Series

A new report claims that the streaming giant worked on and finished an Alien Vs Predator anime that is now just sitting there, collecting dust.

The Perfect Organism Podcast claims that Fox had actually produced an anime based on the popular crossover franchise. What makes this rumor more interesting is that the show was already completed by the time that the studio was acquired by Disney but has yet to be officially announced by Netflix.

Before 20th Century Fox completed their merger with the Walt Disney Company, Perfect Organism: The Alien Saga Podcast was in regular contact with several key players at Fox. During that time it was revealed to us that an Alien vs. Predator anime was completed for Netflix and then never released. It is unknown if and/or when it will be released.

20th Century Fox was acquired by The Walt Disney Corp. last year, marking a complete transition by November, 2019. If Netflix paid for the series then 20th Century or Disney likely wouldn’t have been in a position to cancel it given Netflix’s financial participation in the project unless it was still only in development stages. But the quote from Perfect Organism: The Alien Saga Podcast states on more than one occasion that this is “completed project” that is just sitting there.

Alien Vs Predator

So let’s contemplate why this completed anime is just sitting dormant? Disney, which now owns both the Predator and Alien franchises, is clearly unwilling to release a series on a competing streaming service such as Netflix. But an Alien Vs. Predator anime wouldn’t feel at home on Disney+ either (for obvious, violent reasons). That only leaves the Fox/Disney backed Hulu as a possible home for the project. However, it could be that Netflix would rather bury the project altogether than offer it up to another service. If Netflix is the one holding out it may be that Disney just doesn’t have an interest in this project, nor do they see it a financially viable project to acquire. Disney previously confirmed that Alien and Predator films are currently in development making this anime just something not in their forthcoming planned franchise(s).

It might sound odd that 20th Century Fox would have wanted to seek outside help for an animated project, but it’s not that uncommon with Netflix. Sony’s Masters of The Universe: Revelation and Paramount’s Transformers: War For Cybertron Trilogy were both animated projects owned by other companies that either landed on or were funded / bought by Netflix.

So this Alien Vs. Predator anime series is all but a rumor for the moment but it does sound freakin’ cool.
