Vertical Entertainment has debuted the official trailer for a supernatural WWII thriller Ghosts of War starring Robin from Titans, Brenton Thwaites, where a bunch of soldiers find themselves housed in a haunted Nazi mansion.
Five battle-hardened American soldiers are assigned to hold a French Chateau near the end of World War II. Formerly occupied by the Nazi high command, this unexpected respite quickly descends into madness when they encounter a supernatural enemy far more terrifying than anything seen on the battlefield.

Written and directed by Eric Bress, who’s only previous directorial effort up till this point has been The Butterfly Effect. The director though is better known as the creator of Kyle XY on ABC Family, and writer for Final Destination 2 and The Final Destination. In addition to Brenton Thwaites (Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales), the film stars Alan Ritchson (also from Titans), Skylar Astin (Pitch Perfect), Theo Rossi (Luke Cage), Kyle Gallner (Veronica Mars), Billy Zane (The Phantom), and Shaun Toub (Iron Man). In case you’re wondering that’s a big whos-who of actors you’ve definitely seen in other things but can’t put your finger on their name. The movie looks to be putting them all in various positions of looking scared about what’s about to befall them. I mean…being in a Nazi haunted house would do that to most people.
Okay, clarification time. Ghosts of War looks decent enough for a VOD release. However, the film is dealing with a delicate situation when it comes to the antagonists (i.e. the Ghosts). The trailer is making it look like the victims of Nazi violence, the ghosts, are the villains. That can make sense to an extent. It’s not like the film is looking to examine anything to do with the War in great detail or commentary. These ghosts would feel a great deal of anger and some would be out for revenge but, ultimately, the Nazis would be the ones committing the atrocities, and shouldn’t they be getting their just desserts at this point? Guess we’ll have to wait for the movie to land before making any further judgments.

Ghosts of War premieres on Direct TV June 18 and then goes to on-demand, digital, and virtual cinema screenings on July 17.
