The Game of Thrones actress stars in the new film based on Joe Sharkey’s 1993 non-fiction book of the same name, which came from a true story. Now, Australia’s Madman Films has debuted the official international trailer for the new true-crime thriller Above Suspicion, the latest film from the director Phillip Noyce.
Clarke stars as Susan Smith, an impoverished woman, who is living in an Appalachian mountain town in Kentucky. She agrees to be a police informant to make some extra cash, providing information on a local bank robber. When she is matched-up with FBI agent Mark Putnam (Boardwalk Empire‘s Jack Huston), the two become romantically involved. She sees in him her means of escape; instead, it is a ticket to disaster for both of them. This scandal shook the foundations of the nation’s top law enforcement agency, ending in the first-ever conviction of an FBI agent for murder.

In addition to Clarke and Huston, the film also stars Sophie Lowe, Johnny Knoxville, Thora Birch, and Austin Hébert. There’s plenty of intrigue, noirish aspects, and thrilling style (check out those Dutch angles!) that really lets Clarke explore a story starring a modern femme fatale.
Directed by the acclaimed Australian filmmaker Phillip Noyce, Above Suspicion marks a return to the “thriller” for the veteran director. His most recent film was the critically and financially mixed adaption of The Giver, starring Jeff Bridges. In the past he’s directed such notable titles as Backroads, Newsfront, Heatwave, Dead Calm, Patriot Games, Clear and Present Danger, The Saint, The Bone Collector, Rabbit-Proof Fence, The Quiet American, Catch a Fire, and Salt starring Angelina Jolie.
