Brad Dourif Is Returning As Chucky In Child’s Play TV Series

He’s your friend till the end!

The popular character actor will return to the role he made most iconic simply with his maniacal voice in the new Chucky TV show. The TV show follows a vintage Chucky doll turns up at a suburban yard sale, an idyllic American town is thrown into chaos as a series of horrifying murders begin to expose the town’s hypocrisies and secrets. Meanwhile, the arrival of enemies — and allies — from Chucky’s past threatens to expose the truth behind the killings, as well as the demon doll’s untold origins as a seemingly ordinary child who somehow became this notorious monster.

The news of Dourif’s return as Chucky comes as Comic-Con@Home kicks off. Tonight, Don Mancini is set to appear at the virtual iteration of the confab on the Shudder Presents: Horror Is Queer at 6pm PT. He will also be joined by Antosca on the Shudder Presents: Scary Good TV with Horror’s Top Showrunners panel.

Don Mancini (Hannibal, Channel Zero), who penned the entire franchise, serves as the showrunner and creator of Chucky. David Kirschner (Hocus Pocus, Frailty), who produce the films in the franchise, will also serve as producer of the series. Dourif is the first cast member announced in the series. Mancini teased the TV series earlier this month.

“With this TV show, our mission has been to preserve the straightforward scariness of the original film or the first couple of films,” Mancini explained to Syfy Wire back in May. “But at the same time, continue on with this ever-expanding tapestry of consistent story that we’ve spun over the course of seven movies and 30-some years. I think fans are really gonna love to see the new characters that we introduce into this realm and just to see how they came off of our classic characters. Not just Chucky, but some of the others that you may be hoping to see. There’s a good chance they may turn up.”

Dourif voiced Chucky in 1988’s franchise-starting Child’s Play and its sequels but not last year’s Child’s Play remake, which featured Mark Hamill playing the killer doll. Dourif’s many other credits include One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest (for which he received an Oscar nomination), Alien Resurrection, Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers, and Rob Zombie’s Halloween.

Chucky will screen on Syfy and USA in 2021.
