Archer, the Emmy-winning comedy series, is returning to FXX for its 11th season with a back-to-back episode premiere on Wednesday, September 16th at 10 p.m. PT/ET.
The titular secret agent is back in the world we know him best. After getting shot and falling into a coma at the end of Season 7, the animated comedy took on three seasons of dream-induced fantasies which tossed Archer back into the 1940s, an adventure serial on a tropical island, and, finally, into outer space as an intergalactic mercenary. They were fun and a clever way to mix-up many things creator Adam Reed wanted to explore but it’s also equally excited to see Archer and co. return to a somewhat normal setting.
Check out the trailer for Archer Season 11 below:
The trailer opens with footage from the last season, in which Archer finally wakes up from his coma to see that things have changed considerably during the three years that he’s been asleep. Their agency has since reopened with strict new anti-drinking rules and Cyril showcasing the fact that he’s clearly been working out. We see that Cheryl has turned into the rigidly professional New Better Cheryl, and Pam has continued to beat up people for money. Krieger is still growing clones but has also built Archer a cane for his weakened legs (it’s got some nifty tactical stuff, too). Not much is shown of Lana but we know she’s back. And no Ray, who is voiced by Reed himself, but it was revealed that this season he would be taking a reduced role.
The animated series features the voices of H. Jon Benjamin as Sterling Archer, Aisha Tyler as Lala Kane, Jessica Walter as Archer’s mother Malory, Judy Greer as Cheryl/Carol Tunt, Chris Parnell as Cyril Figgis, Amber Nash as Pam Poovey, and Lucky Yates as Algernop Krieger.
The trailer and release date were announced at the end of the show’s 2020 Comic-Con panel. Held virtually with discussions available for free via YouTube, this year’s edition is formally titled Comic-Con@Home and the Archer panel featured executive producer Casey Willis alongside cast members like Aisha Tyler, Judy Greer, Lucky Yates, Chris Parnell, and Amber Nash. It was also revealed that a number of guest stars will be joining this season including Simon Pegg in a yet-to-be-identified character, while Jamie Lee Curtis will take on a similarly mysterious recurring role, as well as Pamela Adlon (who won an Emmy for her voice work on King of the Hill back in 2002).
Archer was conceived by creator Adam Reed following the cancellation of his Adult Swim series Frisky Dingo. The dark comedy draws inspiration from the James Bond franchise, referencing heavy humor and meta-comedy. There have been 110 episodes broadcast in the show’s history and has received numerous awards, including three Primetime Emmy Awards and four Critics Choice Awards.
Check back in with Archer when it returns with back-to-back episodes on Wednesday, Sept. 16 at 10 p.m. PT/ET.
