Focus Features has debuted an official trailer for the enigmatic thriller Promising Young Woman, the feature directorial debut of Killing Eve producer/writer Emerald Fennell, which is a delicious new take on revenge starring Carey Mulligan.
Everyone said Cassie (Carey Mulligan) was a promising young woman… until a mysterious event abruptly derailed her future. But nothing in her life is what it appears to be: she’s wickedly smart, tantalizingly cunning, and she’s living a secret double life by night. But now, an unexpected encounter is about to give Cassie a chance to right the wrongs of the past in this thrilling and wildly entertaining story.

The film also stars Bo Burnham, in his first major acting role since directing the award-winning Eighth Grade, along with Alison Brie (GLOW), Connie Britton (American Horror Story), Adam Brody (Ready or Not), Jennifer Coolidge (American Pie), Laverne Cox (Orange Is the New Black), Max Greenfield (Veronica Mars), Christopher Mintz-Plasse (KickAss), Sam Richardson (Detroiters), and Molly Shannon (Divorce).
Promising Young Woman is both written and directed by English actress-turned-filmmaker Emerald Fennell, making her feature directorial debut after one other short film previously; and writing / producing work on the TV show Killing Eve. Originally premiering at the Sundance Film Festival earlier this year (where it was met with critical acclaim). The film was shot by Benjamin Kracun.
Promising Young Woman was initially scheduled for release in April back due to the vast majority of films being pushed back due to the Coronavirus pandemic the film will hold off till December now, which is prime awards season, making it possible that Focus Features is gearing up for an Oscar campaign for star Carey Mulligan
