Don’t Breathe 2: The Blind Man Returns In First Trailer

Sony Pictures and Screen Gems have debuted the first official trailer for the horror sequel Don’t Breathe 2, the followup to the massively successful 2016 original starring Stephen Lang.

Set in the years following the initial deadly home invasion, where Norman Nordstrom (Lang) lives in quiet solace until his past sins catch up to him.

In addition to Lang, Don’t Breathe 2 features Brendan Sexton III, Madelyn Grace, Bobby Schofield, Rocci Williams, Steffan Rhodri, and Stephanie Arcila. Judging by this first trailer the sequel looks like it might just be an improvement over the original, getting even more brutal but sticking to the concept.

Check out the first official trailer for Don’t Breathe 2 below:

In 2016’s Don’t Breath, a group of young people break into a blind man’s house looking for an easy score but find themselves the hunted when the sightless homeowner turns out to be a skilled murderer. The film’s efficient setpieces and disturbing turns made it a surprise hit. Later in the film, it’s revealed that the blind man kidnapped and held a young woman hostage, impregnating her in hopes of replacing his daughter, who the woman killed in a car accident. When he accidentally shoots his prisoner during the robbery attempt, he captures and rapes one of the young burglars and decides that she will bear his new child instead.

Don’t Breathe 2 is directed by Uruguayan filmmaker Rodo Sayagues, making his feature directorial debut after co-producing the original film, and also work on the TV show Calls previously. Rodo Sayagues directs from a screenplay he also wrote with producer Fede Alvarez, director of the original film. The sequel also brings back the producing team of Sam Raimi and Rob Tapert.

“In the first film, Norman had the upper hand,” Alvarez recently told IGN about the film, “but this time the tables are turned and the invaders totally outnumber him. And he’s the one that will have to fight for his life against all odds.” That’s enough for us to check it out when it lands later this summer.

Additionally, the film is lensed by Alvarez’s frequent cinematographer Pedro Luque, ASC, best known for his work on Extinction (2018), the first Don’t Breathe, and The Girl in the Spider’s Web (from Fede Alvarez back in 2018). This first look at Don’t Breathe 2 offers a glimpse at just what Luque and Sayagues have in store visually. Embracing dark hues and shadows, conveying the world that the Blind Man inhabits while also submerging the audience into the said landscape. It looks harsh and forbidding, continuing a great trend of cinematography in horror films that has been underappreciated for decades.
