Fear Street Part 2: 1978 Trailer Brings The Friday The 13th Vibes This Summer!

Netflix has unveiled the trailer for their highly anticipated second chapter in their Fear Street horror trilogy, adapted from the R.L. Stine books of the same name.

Fear Street Part 1: 1994 told of a group of teens in the cursed town of Shadyside who took on a malevolent force that has plagued their home for decades. Part 2: 1978 now goes back in time to an earlier decade where the joys of summer camp turn into nightmares when a murderer stalks the grounds. The second film, though set in the late ’70s, actaully harkens back to the days of 1980s slasher films set at camps such as Friday the 13th and Sleepaway Camp, and judging by this trailer, those vibes are there in spades.

All three entries of Fear Street come from Leigh Janiak, director of the excellent indie horror film Honeymoon. “The way that the actors and I worked in that movie was different than in the ’90s,” Fear Street director Leigh Janiak previously told EW of Part 2:

“They live in a slightly more stylized world, they fit more traditional archetypes versus the ’90s characters. We’ve done slasher movies in various ways, and I was interested in how we could reinvent the genre a little bit. Part of that came from this opportunity to tell a different kind of story that had a bigger narrative, connected over all three, that you need to watch in a short amount of time to get the full experience. It’s not a traditional sequel model.”

The trilogy’s screenwriters include Phil Graziadei & Leigh Janiak (Part 1: 1994); Zak Olkewicz and Leigh Janiak (Part 2: 1978); Phil Graziadei, Leigh Janiak and Kate Trefry (Part 3: 1666).  The film also features original scores by Marco Beltrami along with three co-composers for each film: Marcus Trumpp (Part 1: 1994); Brandon Roberts (Part 2: 1978); & Anna Drubich (Part 3: 1666).
