Gunpowder Milkshake Trailer: Karen Gillen Stars In Action-Fest With Killer Cast!

Lena Headey, Angela Bassett, Michelle Yeoh, Carla Gugino, and Paul Giamatti fill out the cast in Netflix’s hitman action movie, Gunpowder Milkshake. The first trailer showcases three generations of kick-ass women fighting back against those who could take everything from them.

Sam was only 12 years old when her mother Scarlet, an elite assassin, was forced to abandon her. Sam was raised by The Firm, the ruthless crime syndicate her mother worked for. Now, 15 years later, Sam has followed in her mother’s footsteps and grown into a fierce hit-woman. But when a high-risk job goes wrong, Sam must choose between serving The Firm and protecting the life of an innocent 8-year-old girl – Emily. With a target on her back, Sam has only one chance to survive: Reunite with her mother and her lethal associates, The Librarians. These three generations of women must now learn to trust each other, stand up to The Firm and their army of henchmen, and raise hell against those who want to take everything from them.

Judging by that trailer it feels like we’re in a good place with female-led action films. We’ve recently covered both Kate Beckinsale’s Jolt as well as Maggie Q in The Protégé. Now we’re getting an all-star lineup of some of the best new and veteran stars of action cinema over the last several decades in what looks like one of the better action offerings this summer with vibrant cinematography.

Speaking of cinematography, Gunpowder Milkshake is lensed by veteran DoP Michael Seresin, BSC. Seresin is best known for his several collaborations with the British director Alan Parker like the Southern supernatural-Noir Angel HeartHe was also behind the camera on Alfonso Cuaron’s Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, and the incredible Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, and War for the Planet of the Apes.

Gunpowder Milkshake

Gunpowder Milkshake is directed by Israeli genre filmmaker Navot Papushado. This is Papushado’s third feature and his first English-language film. His 2013 feature Big Bad Wolves earned the director two Israeli Academy Award nominations, one for Best Director and the other for Best Screenplay. The screenplay is written by Ehud Lavski and Navot Papushado.

Gunpowder Milkshake also fits with Netflix’s action films like the Charlize Theron-starrer The Old Guard and the Chris Hemsworth-starrer Extraction, the latter of which has another film in the works after becoming the most-watched film on Netflix.

Both Blood Red Sky and John David Washington’s Beckett fit into the streaming service’s “Summer Movie Season” in which they are releasing a notable “event film” each week to compete and offer counter-programming while theaters continue to open and recoup around the world in the wake of Covid.
