Sony Pictures has just revealed a brand new trailer for Jason Reitman’s Ghostbusters: Afterlife, a continuation of the original films. And yes, there are definitely some familiar faces that show up this time around.
Everything happens for a reason… In Ghostbusters: Afterlife, when a single mom and her two kids arrive in a small town, they begin to discover their connection to the original Ghostbusters and the secret legacy their grandfather left behind.
Check out the new trailer for Ghostbusters: Afterlife below:
The trailer highlights the new characters’ connection to Harold Ramis’ Egon Spengler as they try to discover the reason why he came to Summerville. We also get our first look at Ghostbusters alum Annie Potts’ return as Janine, as well as a glimpse of Dan Aykroyd’s Ray Stantz. The trailer ends by giving us a look at the film’s villain as chaos unleashes on the small town of Summerville.
The rest of the film’s cast includes Emmy nominees Carrie Coon (Fargo) and Mckenna Grace (The Handmaid’s Tale), along with Stranger Things‘ Finn Wolfhard and Paul Rudd. It will also feature the return of original Ghostbusters stars Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, Ernie Hudson and Sigourney Weaver as they reprise their iconic roles as Peter Venkman, Ray Stantz, Winston Zeddemore and Dana Barrett.
Ghostbusters: Afterlife is directed by Canadian filmmaker Jason Reitman, director of such films as Thank You for Smoking, Juno, Up in the Air, and Young Adult. Reitman takes over from his father, Ivan, in the director’s chair, marking a familial connection both in front of and behind the camera. The screenplay is written by Jason Reitman and Gil Kenan and produced by Ivan Reitman.
Behind the camera is Eric Steelberg, ASC, who has lensed every movie for Jason Reitman since Juno. Here they’re favoring rural golds to really capture that nostalgic hometown feel. It’s a nice contrast for some of the heavier visual effects shots, especially when they favor the villains and some of the more gnarly ghost effects.
The new Ghostbusters was originally set to open in theaters last summer but was delayed for more than a year due to the pandemic. Sony will now release Reitman’s Ghostbusters: Afterlife in theaters everywhere starting November 11th, 2021.
