Lincoln Logs In: Last Trailer Before Friday…

Daniel Day Lewis plays the namesake in Lincoln, Steven Spielberg’s latest theatrical release, which seemingly has Oscar written all over it. [checklist]

  • Legendary director? Check.
  • Epic period piece? Check.
  • Daniel Day Lewis being Daniel Day Lewis? Check.
  • A ridiculously talented supporting cast? Check.
  • Sappy American back story that everyone thinks they are familiar with? Check.

[/checklist] If only there were some hookers or handicaps to round out the story you could guarantee the film would sweep the Oscars this year…

Let’s face it Daniel Day Lewis is awesome, and you know he is going to hit it out of the park when it comes to his portrayal of Lincoln, but it almost seems too easy. Lincoln is one of the most beloved and revered historical figures in American history so hopefully this film will not simply be a further exploration of what we already know, but instead a glimpse into the darker sides of the President’s life. Early indications from the trailer are that we will see Lincoln’s struggle to lead a nation through its greatest conflict and moral dilemma but you have to wonder if that is enough of a challenge for the great Daniel Day. He is at his best when portraying flawed characters and I’m not sure if Spielberg’s Lincoln will be more than a Patriotic shadow of the towering icon, but you might not imagine that Lewis would sign on for that kind of project.

This particular trailer is light on the battle action but it seems like there will be some spectacular recreations of the Civil War in a Saving Private Ryan-esque style. Lincoln clocks in at 149 minutes which is less than you might expect from a movie of this scope but does indicate that there will probably be some long boring court scenes to balance out the battlefields. As far as I can tell there will be no zombie killing in this retelling of the Lincoln story, but Spoiler Alert: Lincoln dies in the end!

Are You Ready For ‘Dinosaurs vs. Aliens’?

Mash ups in movies are not a new idea. Hell, they started back in the early 40’s when Abbott and Costello met Frankenstein, and Dracula was having a fist fight with the Wolfman.

But recently with the popularity of Pride and Prejudice and Zombies and all those spin offs and movies such as Freddy vs. Jason and Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Slayer they seem to be all over the place! Well, here’s another one for you; Dinosaurs vs. Aliens. Film Drunk has footage of the upcoming work by comic legend Grant Morrison and Barry Sonnenfeld (of Men in Black fame) in this part trailer part commentary.

Now this looks pretty frikking cool! Sure there has now been an abundance of these types of movies but I just love them, I cannot get enough of them. The artwork involved in this is stunning. The aliens look a lot like the Matrix aliens with maybe a dash of District 9 thrown in there and the story seems like Battlefield Earth but with errrrr Dinosaurs! Who does not want to see that!

This was just for information on the motion comic but in these interviews from yahoo screen Grant also says he is penning the comic and movie and it will be a whopping three parts!

Interview 3

While Zimbio.com had this information on the graphic novel publication and artwork to boot.

From the minds of acclaimed filmmaker, Barry Sonnenfeld (Director of the “Men In Black” Films), and superstar graphic novel creator, Grant Morrison (Batman, The Invisibles, Action Comics, 18 Days), comes “Dinosaurs Vs. Aliens,” by Liquid Comics. The story focuses on a secret world war battle that was never recorded in our history books. When an alien invasion attacks Earth in the age of the dinosaurs, our planet’s only saviors are the savage prehistoric beasts which are much more intelligent than humanity has ever imagined.

So hopefully you are not sick of these combo movies yet as there is plenty more to come from Grant and Barry!

Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter – 2 AM Text Review

My buddy Aaron is a bartender for a certain movie theater here in Michigan, and on occasion, the theater will have advanced screenings for movies the Wednesday night prior to the film’s release. Well early this morning I got a few texts from my good friend about his thoughts on President Lincoln’s Vampire Slaying skills.

Aaron Stallings: Kronner, I’m texting you at 2am with no regard if you’re sleep or not to tell you that I want to have sex with this movie. It was f***ing sweet! Reminds me of zombieland.  – 1:58 AM

Aaron Stallings: Fast pace, kinda crazy, great effects, creepy characters, smooth villains… oh, and Abe Lincoln freeing my people. – 2:01 AM

Aaron Stallings: Oh, and 1 boob, but there’s was a little blood on it soooo… If that’s you’re kinda thing…  – 2:02 AM

He also informed me that he viewed the film with projection team, who are, as he put it, “Movie buffs. Like you”, and that they too seemed to share his excitement for the feature.

I don’t know about you, but based on that review…I’m in.

President Lincoln’s mother was killed by a supernatural creature, which fuels his passion to crush vampires and their slave-owning helpers.

Abraham Lincoln: Kicking Total Vampire Ass in the New Red-Band Trailer

This trailer actually makes me want to watch this film, because it might be really good… kind of. Maybe. Previous trailers just made me want to watch the film to have a laugh (I probably still will), but come on, it’s a film were Abraham Lincoln kills vampires; It’s going to be hysterical! Right?

Check out the newest trailer below, you won’t be disappointed:

“It’s time vampires had a nation of our own.” Isn’t Transylvania enough for you vampires? Greedy vampire…

The new trailer though certainly is starting to paint a better picture for this film in my mind, but I still have some concerns, mainly towards the film’s director Timur Bekmambetov. His track record isn’t great on films where he produces, writes and directs – 9, Apollo 18 and The Darkest Hour. And then add in that Tim Burton’s last couple of ventures haven’t given me much hope either, I have right to be skeptical.

On a more positive note, both of these have made good films in the past, so here’s hoping we get the best out of them.

Honest Abe looks ready to go though…

Abraham Lincoln: The Most Ass-Kickingest President

The crazy success of Pride and Prejudice and Zombies has created the market for a slew of similarly themed books starring historical or fictional characters versus the Occult. The first of these to hit the big screen will be Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter, ahead of the proto-generator Pride and Prejudice and Zombies which isn’t scheduled to come out until 2013. Well, the trailer is out and the first thing that’s apparent is that AL:VH is swinging for the fences.

Is Abraham Lincoln A President, Vampire Hunter, or a Zombie Killer?

2011 marked the announcement of a film that literally sealed the deal for the death of Hollywood. Granted, it’s based off of a marginally successful, tongue-in-cheek novel of the same name, but it’s true when they say that some things are just not meant to be movies. Regardless, this Spielberg produced “historical” action flick has been garnering quite a bit of buzz over the last few months for being as outlandish as it can be.

Of course, every mindless action pic has its low-budget imitators, but there are some movies that are rehashed so poorly, they make history. The Asylum, which is the production company known for taking movies we love and turning them into remakes/sequels we detest. A couple of names that may sound familiar are: Almighty Thor (originally just Thor), I Am Omega (instead of I Am Legend), 2010: Moby Dick, Battle of Los Angeles (not be confused with Battle: Los Angeles; the colon makes all the difference in the world), 3 Musketeers, and sadly, Titanic II.

Now, The Asylum is deciding to bastardize Hollywood even further by redoing Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter, as Abraham Lincoln Versus Zombies. Again, world of difference, got to give credit where credit is due. I mean, just look at the originality that is seeping from the loins of The Asylum, here! It really is quite astounding. I mean, if hearing the title Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter doesn’t already make you do a double take, then taking on zombies definitely will.

Of all the ideas that The Asylum has had, this one might be the most absurd, which in turn makes it the most watchable of the bunch. John Wilkes Booth has been turned into a member of the “New Secret Service”. I mean, who can resist historical accuracy this rich with flavor? One thing is for sure, if I had the choice between vampires and zombies, I’m almost positive I’d take the walkers.

Daniel Day-Lewis is Abraham Lincoln

Lincoln is an upcoming biographical drama directed by Steven Spielberg, based on the book Team of Rivals: The Political Genius of Abraham Lincoln by Doris Kearns Goodwin.

When I had first heard about this Liam Neeson was attached to play the lead, but that was years ago and I hadn’t heard anything else about the film until now. Apparently Neeson left the project after years of waiting for it to get the green light. According to Neeson, he felt he was too old to play the part. Personally, I felt Neeson was an excellent choice to play Lincoln. However, once I heard Daniel Day-Lewis got the role I just about creamed myself.

This will be the first time Spielberg and Day-Lewis have worked on a film together and I’m very excited because DDL has a habit of disappearing into his characters.

For his role as ‘Bill the Butcher’ in Gangs of New York he took lessons as an apprentice butcher, never left character between takes (including keeping the New York accent), and even caught pneumonia because he wouldn’t wear a warmer coat stating that it wasn’t in character to do so. This along with the picture below leads me to believe that Lincoln will be a movie worth paying ticket price to see.
