The Deadites Return in Evil Dead Rise

Few franchises have fostered my love for genre filmmaking more than Evil Dead. A series that doesn’t contain a bad entry, and spans almost 40 years is impressive enough, but the fact that the same group of people have stayed so involved in the whole process is inspiring.

It seemed like we might have seen our last entry after STARZ canceled Ash vs. Evil Dead back in 2018, but the deadites are back and primed to terrorize a new cast of characters. This new entry, Evil Dead Rise will move the focus off of Ash (though Bruce Campbell is producing) and introduce a hero for a new generation. The Japanese Evil Dead: Gory Knockoff Coming Soon To U.S. Home Video

Wild Eye Releasing has debuted a new trailer for the long lost Japanese horror knockoff film titled officially Bloody Muscle Body Builder in Hell (or Jigoku No Chimidoro Muscle Builder). Otherwise, unofficially known, as The Japanese Evil Dead.

In the film, which has never before been released in the U.S., a bodybuilder trapped inside a haunted house must save himself from a ghost hell-bent on revenge. After a surprise phone call interrupts his daily workout, beefy bodybuilder Shinji agrees to meet his photojournalist ex-girlfriend to help with her research on haunted houses. Accompanied by a professional psychic, they visit an abandoned house once owned by Shinji’s father. But inside the house, a dark secret lingers and they find themselves trapped and tormented by a relentless ghost with a 30-year grudge.

Check out the trailer, courtesy of Bloody Disgusting, for Bloody Muscle Body Builder in Hell (aka The Japanese Evil Dead) below:

Ash vs Evil Dead Renewed Before Halloween Series Premiere!

Some great news for the loyal Deadites out there patiently awaiting the Halloween premiere of Ash vs Evil Dead. Starz has already greenlit a second season, presumably based on the buzz leading up to the premiere, as well as some great reviews over the last few weeks.

Of course, a lot of that buzz can be attributed to the loyal fan base that Bruce Campbell has built over the years, and with his return to the role that made him famous there is no doubt that Starz saw potential in the series and one of the most well-known chins in cult movie history.

Ash vs Evil Dead: What We Know So Far

The man who told us all how and where to shop – “Shop smart. Shop S-Mart” – is heading to the small screen thanks to Starz and their new series; Ash vs Evil Dead.

While the Evil Dead series was originally planned to continue in the form of a sequel to 2014’s reboot, those plans were scrapped in favor of the TV series. Ash vs Evil Dead not only takes us back to the original continuity (and I use this term loosely) of the films, it will bring back the first and best threat to the evil Deadites – Ashley J. Williams, played by cult hero Bruce Campbell. Starz has ordered a 10-episode first season, and we’ve heard a bit of news from the series over the last few weeks as it gears up for production.

Grizzly’s Casting Couch: Bruce Campbell’s Expendables Of Horror

Back in 2010, Bruce Campbell suggested the idea that he was putting together a horror movie in the vein of The Expendables. Grizzly Bomb has decided to take a stab (sorry) at filling in that hypothetical movie’s dream cast.

Update on ‘Evil Dead’ Remake, News on ‘Evil Dead 2’ Remake?

The verdict is in from SXSW, and all of you horror nerds can breathe a sigh of relief, because the remake of The Evil Dead is damned awesome, as reviewed by THR. They’re kinda spoiler heavy with their review but it’s pretty glowing and a good indication that every whiny little jerk who thought this was “raping” the franchise is a pedantic little baby who refuses to embrace change. While I won’t quote the THR review due to said spoilers, I can say it certainly does spell out the major touchstones of the film, showing that it’s very faithful to the original. While I know it’s a bit silly to go on saying that a remake of a cult classic could be “spoiled” by a review, the case is still so with the THR review, so be warned if you do check it out you’ll know plot details. Suffice to say the plot details are pretty much the same from the original, but the details and whatnot are there and could ruin some of the experience for fans looking to be surprised by what’s new or the same, or newbies who aren’t familiar with the classic Evil Dead experience.
