It may be part of Darth Disney’s plan to take over the world, but Marvel’s ever-expanding movie universe has taken audiences by storm (just not Johnny Storm).
Captain America: Civil War kicked off Phase Three with some impressive numbers the last two weekends, keeping the number one spot and showing that audiences are still symptom-free of what some are calling Superhero-Fatigue.
The first trailer for Antoine Fuqua’s remake of The Magnificent Seven is out and it’s chock-full of slam-bang action, and an eclectic ensemble cast including Denzel Washington, Chris Pratt and Ethan Hawke.
We’ve seen a lot from the Jurassic World trailers; everything from plot to the Chris Pratt and his velociraptor horde – all with the exception of the Indominus Rex, the films prehistoric antagonist. Luckily for us that changed with today’s trailer, giving fans a taste of just how dangerous the new Dino can be.
Spike Jonze is back in the spotlight after about four years of no feature films, with his new flick Her. The story is about a heartbroken man who finds solace in an A.I computer that acts as his girlfriend, and it looks to be a cool blend of Sci-Fi over the basic falling in love storyline. The film stars Joaquin Phoenix as the loner, who on paper sounds similar to his previous character in The Master as he looks to be disconnected and awkward in society. However, the portrayal in the trailer seems to be totally different, which goes to show Phoenix’s tremendous range. Accompanying him is a killer cast including Scarlett Johansson (The Avengers) as the computer voice Sarah, Rooney Mara (The Girl with The Dragon Tattoo), Amy Adams (The Master), Olivia Wilde (The Change Up), and Chris Pratt (Parks and Rec.). Check out the Her trailer below.
The film looks great, and it’s sure to be one in contention for awards later this year. What most excites me is the Sci-Fi Romance tone that Jonze seems to be getting at, akin to Eternal Sunshine Of The Spotless Mind. Keeping the heart, and using the Sci-fi as simply a mechanism is what makes me excited for this.
Also, a neat note, this is Spike Jonze’s first solo screenwriting credit on a film, which hopefully proves to be a good thing as Sci-Fi is done best with a clear vision from start to finish.
Her opens November 20, just two days before the major blockbuster which is bound to make big bucks, The Hunger Games: Catching Fire.
I am a huge fan of Lego. It doesn’t matter what form – the bricks themselves, Lego board games, Lego video games, Lego keychain flashlight, Lego thumbdrive… I’m a fan of it all. So it should come as no surprise that when the Lego Movie was announced, I was beside myself with excitement. Now? Well now I’m so giddy I can barely type because The Lego Movie has a trailer and it is awesome!
If a Lego movie itself wasn’t awesome enough, the voices behind the characters are certainly a group that demands attention. Liam Neeson, Morgan Freeman, Nick Offerman, Elizabeth Banks, Will Ferrell, Allison Brie, Will Arnett, and a man who is having a pretty good run here lately, Chris Pratt as the main character Emmett.
My first reaction was “love the inclusion of the DC Comics characters” because unlike some people (pretty much every other GB staffer – I am alone on my Lego love island), I adore the Lego games especially the Batman versions. After watching the trailer a couple of times, the best part of this movie is the stop motion type of animation they’ve used that is, I’d imagine, an homage to the thousands of fan made videos through the years using stop motion. They could have easily gone with a “smoother” looking animation but it’s nice to see a nod to the Lego fans like that.
Sadly, we have awhile to wait as the movie isn’t set for release until 2014, but I’m sure there will be plenty more trailers and images put out before then and you best believe I’ll be at the ready waiting to bring them to you!
We sure didn’t have to wait very long to hear of the next cast member announced for James Gunn’s Guardians of the Galaxy, following the casting of Chris Pratt as Peter Quill/ Star-Lord. The second member of the team has been announced, with Dave Bautista joining the film as Drax the Destroyer!
The excitement behind the casting of the Guardians of the Galaxy film just keeps escalating. With the recent news that Chris Pratt is joining the movie as the leader of the Guardians, we have been given even more exciting news with the release on Nerd Reactor that the new Conan and GameofThrones actor Jason Momoa has screen tested for the role of ‘Drax the Destroyer’. This is a role that has some stiff competition with the likes of Isaiah Mustafa (Old Spice adverts) and Dave Bautista (former wrestler and villain in The Man with the IronFists) are also gunning for the role.
For people unfamiliar with the character here is a brief recap: Arthur Douglas started life as a human and family man, until Thanos killed his family. His spirit was then taken and placed into a new and more powerful body with only one goal in mind, to kill the creature that destroyed his life (for a more detailed description click here).
Recent news from Borys Kit of The Hollywood Reporter via tweets has indicated that although he has screen tested, he has not been offered the role. Borys comment:
Then even more news was revealed again via twitter, but this time from El Mayimbe saying.
So where does that leave us? Well no further forward I am afraid. We still do not know who is going to be cast in this role, but we do know that no one has the role so far. Views seem mixed on Momoa wanting the role and the amount he wants for it. My personal view (which is based only on his appearances in Conan and GameofThrones) is that, although he looks the part physically, I am not sure if he has enough acting experience to be asking for this amount of money. I have not seen his role in BulletintheHead, but I know it did not perform as well at the Box Office as expected (a fate that Conan also suffered from).
With pretty much every Marvel produced product having had a successful Box Office run, we can assume that this movie should be no different, and could be the next step in Momoa’s film career. I would hate to think that he was shooting himself in the foot over this.

The search for Marvel Studio’s newest lead actor has ended, and the role of Star-Lord goes to… Chris Pratt! Just like the title says! Pratt will be joining no one in Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy, the next big franchise coming to us in Marvel’s Phase 2. Still pretty early in it’s development, GotG has yet to cast any other members of the team or reveal much about the story, but casting this role is a huge step forward.
At long last, the waiting comes to an end. In a matter of hours, Parks and Recreation will finally return from what has seemed like the longest hiatus in the history of television. Okay that might be a slight exaggeration but come on – I feel like Ron Swanson as he walked into the diner asking for all the eggs and bacon they had. I’ve been starving myself waiting for that first bite of sweet Swanson ass. Hmmm… this is getting a little creepy now.
I’ll be the first to admit that NBC does a lot of things wrong. The Olympics, The Today Show, NBC News in general, canceling shows before they even have a chance (this is my third mention of Kings in a week), their sometimes pain in the ass relationship with sites like YouTube; but one thing they do right is put out videos for their sitcoms. Granted you aren’t going to find them unless you are actively looking for them but hey, what do I know? And then you find them and they won’t embed and you spend a maddening amount of time trying to figure out why and find no answer so just click on the link and enjoy the trailer for Season 5.

and then there is this…
“The perm must wait, Autumn. The perm must wait.” There’s a reason this woman was elected to public office, she is just so wise. Plus, I think we can all agree that any scene that involves Ron Swanson and food is bound to be awesome. Especially if that food has not quite made it to the “food” state yet.
If those two nuggets of goodness aren’t enough for you, or you just really want to know who Andy would sleep with given the chance, check out this Google Talk with Amy Poehler, Adam Scott, Aubrey Plaza, and Chris Pratt.
Remember the Hamster Dance that was pretty much the first viral and completely annoying thing on the internet? Let me introduce you to it is much cooler and not quite as obnoxious cousin, Drunk Ron Swanson. I made it 674 seconds and feel like I might have a seizure at any moment.
We’ll use any excuse to use this Gif again…
Hopefully I’ll recover in time to tune in to Parks and Recreation on NBC, Thursday nights at 9:30/8:30c. Waffle sundaes for everyone!
