At last it’s October, and we’re celebrating Halloween all month long. To kick things off, several of our writers have each agreed to share what freaked them out the most – as it relates to movies, TV, comics, books, or pop culture, naturally.

Sometimes you look over at your board game collection and realize they seem to cover pretty much everything.

Zombies seem to be everywhere recently don’t they? It’s okay, I did not mean it literally, you can remove the locks of the door now! No, what I meant was that in the last few years the zombie mythology has become firmly embedded in pop culture. With The Walking Dead bringing in huge ratings numbers and zombie films with a heart like Shaun of the Dead, it seems you cannot walk down the street without some form of zombie merchandise in your way. Now zombies have been in cinema for a long time now. Their origins lie in Haitian folklore and they were originally slaves to their voodoo masters.

This is to be the 4th piece of the series here at Grizzly Bomb. For each feature we will examine an individual genre and the quality of its films produced within a specific decade, like, for example – the 25 Best Action Movies of the 90s, the 25 Best Comedies of the 80s, or The 30 Best Sci-Fi Movies from 2000-2009. There is a trailer out for a video game so enticing that I had to change my pants after I saw it. I am talking about Lollipop Chainsaw; a hack-and-slash zombie killing… no… dismembering game.
In the game, you play Juliet, a cheerleader who’s outfit leaves little to the imagination. In the trailer, she appears to be in her school slashing zombies left and right.
James Gunn (writer/director: “Slither”, “Super”) wrote the story behind the game. Suda 51 (Video game director: “Fatal Frame IV”, “Shadow of the Damned”) is the creative director. When looking at these guys’ reputations, it is clear that Lollipop Chainsaw will be a crazy, yet fantastic journey. As a former cheerleader, cheer coach, and current zombie lover, this looks like it was made for me.
The release date is set for the end of 2012, but there hasn’t been a definite date scheduled. One thing is for sure… I will be reserving this one. Here is the trailer:
