For once, DC has made the smart choice for one of their films on the first try.
In an effort to cash in on the surprising success of Deadpool, the people at DC have begun work on a violent R-rated comedy of their own, in the form of Czarnian bounty hunter Lobo. Scriptwriter Jason Fuchs (Wonder Woman) recently confirmed that he is working on the script for a Lobo film, and that he will be using the original version of the character as the source.
Three brand new posters have been released today, focusing on ‘the Trinity’ as they are known to most comic fans. Each poster features a new look at our main characters with their individual iconography to tease the film, which is still way too many months away.
The character posters show Henry Cavill as Superman looking damp and angry, with Ben Affleck in his Armored Bat Suit looking to sell mad toys, and Wonder Woman fully armed and ready to take the female superhero world by storm. You can check out the posters below after the jump.

Lately, comic book fans have enjoyed a gamut of TV shows based on their favorite graphic novel personalities. Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. and Agent Carter have delved into the espionage section of their massive universe. As for DC, they have opted to feature their fastest superhero The Flash in his own series, and a prequel to Batman’s reign, Gotham. Fans have taken quite quickly to those shows, while a much smaller crowd has developed a connection to NBC’s smug magic wielder Constantine.
The first season of the show has just reached its 13-episode conclusion on NBC, and a follow-up season is still in doubt. This has led fans to Twitter, trying to keep the show alive with its own hashtag movement – #SaveConstantine. Rumors has been circulating that NBC may consider moving Constantine to the SyFy cable network, and re-naming the show Hellblazer.
It’s known that the show hasn’t been garnering the type of blockbuster ratings NBC is used to for such a special effects heavy show. Showrunner Daniel Cerone made sure to speak up when fans cried afoul on social media over the fact that their new favorite show may get cancelled. Cerone did note that Constantine might be technically cancelled at the moment, but there may be a sliver of hope for the show’s future:
NBC made some early pickups but Constantine not canceled. We’ll pitch them our plans for 2nd season in May. Then they decide. Anyone putting money in studio coffers by purchasing Constantine in any form will motivate studio to find a home for show. The more international viewers the better. Foreign sales can drive a series. Keep it on air. Look at Hannibal for proof.
Fans may want to stream the show as much as possible and make their voices heard even more if they’d like Constantine to stay on NBC. Honestly though, we’d be perfectly fine with the show’s move on over to cable TV. We’re of the opinion that the show may get the proper, darker tone we loved to follow in the comics if it made its home at Syfy. Looks like we’ll have to wait till May to learn the fate of our favorite chain-smoking magician.
Did any of you guys expect The LEGO Movie to be as good as it was? Count us in that group of movie geeks who were caught off guard by just how AWESOME that film was (pun intended). Well now DC Comics most prolific heroes are getting the LEGO film treatment as well, but you won’t have to spend movie theater prices to see it.
The always moody but always prepared Batman and a slew of other DC Comics heroes and villains are ready to take over the small screen on Cartoon Network. Fans of all ages will certainly be tuning into LEGO Batman: Be-Leaguered!
Cartoon Network is ready to give fans young and old another LEGO feature presentation. DC’s moody Dark Knight will fight alongside his fellow Justice Leaguers in the upcoming special, LEGO Batman: Be-Leaguered. We have the first clip for you below:
Once a bunch of infamous DC baddies show up and make the Man of Steel disappear, Batman finally becomes a team player and joins up with The Flash, Wonder Woman, Aquaman, and Cyborg. You can expect to see Captain Cold pop up during the world saving festivities, too…
This special LEGO animated special will be followed by the release of LEGO Batman 3: Beyond Gotham a month later. The premise for this light-hearted take on the DC Comics universe is as follows – Superman’s nemesis Brainiac manages to snag the powers held within each of the Lantern Corps’ rings. Brainiac then puts those power rings’ abilities to good use by simply shrinking Earth and other planets to add to his personal collection. Brainiac and the Legion of Doom will then have to fend off the heroes – Batman and his Justice League allies.
In celebration of Batman’s 75th Anniversary, make sure you tune into this Cartoon Network special on October 27 at 6 p.m. EST.

While DC languishes about 10 miles behind Marvel Studios in their film department, with nothing to really hang their hat on other than Nolan’s The Dark Kight Trilogy, a little ingenuity from choreographer Leo Kei Angelos and writer George Ruiz has really injected some life into a famous DC property. This is definitely needed after disappointing forays into what should have been blockbuster properties. First we dealt with the miserable excuse for a Green Lantern film, and a Man of Steel movie that was so dark and full of unnecessary CGI that it can’t be classified as anything other then 2013’s Most Disappointing Film. Granted, Superman expectations were raised to unattainable heights by that epic last trailer, but the Boy Scouts origin was just way too dark.
Since Batman vs Superman(one of the the rumored titles) was announced at San Diego Comic Con last month, the internet has been awash with rumors and speculation about the Caped Crusader. Who will play Batman? Are Warner and DC going for someone young or someone more established? When in Batman’s career will the story be set? Could it be set after Nolan’s The Dark Knight Rises after all, despite all claims to a reboot? Based on certain recent rumors, it certainly is a possibility, which we will take a look at below.
Zack Snyder was keen to point out that the quote taken from Frank Millers ‘The Dark Knight Returns’ (which was read by Harry Lennix at the SDCC announcement) was more to establish tone rather than it being a sign of Superman vs. Batman being a direct adaptation of Millers TDKR. Seeing as they have recently touched on that source material already with the awesome DC Animated Feature Batman: The Dark Knight Returns, it makes sense they wouldn’t be looking to dive into that territory again so soon.

However, the Independent recently reported that Snyder will be meeting up with Frank Miller to discuss Batman vs Superman, so it remains to be seen what kind of connection the film will have to the hit graphic novel.
Personally, I feel the tone of ‘TDKR’ would fit neatly into the world that Snyder and writer David Goyer created for Man of Steel. It might also slip in seamlessly into the Nolan verse, despite Christian Bale no longer being onboard as the Dark Knight.We already know that this isn’t going to be another Batman origin story, which we don’t really need to see again. One of the failings of TheAmazing Spider-Man in my opinion is that it tried to spin a new origin story out of one we had already seen recently.
With Christopher Nolan’s Dark Knight trilogy so embedded in people minds, we certainly don’t need to see another Year One style project. Heck, if Goyer and Snyder wanted to, the sudden appearance of Superman could be what initially brings Batman out of his early retirement we saw at the end of The Dark Knight Rises. That would also neatly fit this movie into the world that Nolan created with his Dark Knight trilogy. Now that would be interesting.
If Snyder and Goyer do go with a completely new universe as they have said before, than they will of course need to establish a new character. Within the comics Batman is perpetually in his 30’s, which has allowed for the character to be played by a revolving door of actors over the years, like in the Burton and Schumacher days. This generally negates the need to ever revisit the origin story, and would open many doors for more Batman adaptations in the future if that same mold is followed.
What initially bothered me about the announcement was the possibility that Batman would just be a glorified cameo. Hopefully this won’t be the case, as I feel there is plenty of fertile ground from the comic book history for Snyder and Goyer to really explore the relationship between Batman and Superman. They need to look no further than Jeph Loeb’s brilliant ‘Public Enemies’ storyline for inspiration.
Man of Steel sets up a great opportunity to put Batman and Superman at odds, while setting up the potentially great friendship they have. Having seen the destruction that is happening in Metropolis caused by these extra terrestrial beings, it seems only natural that Batman would want to investigate the events that occurred, which must have caused hundreds, if not thousands, of deaths. Initially it would be interesting to see Batman and Luthor working together, or at least sharing a vested interest as they rebuilt Metropolis into the futuristic city it’s known as in the comics.
This could lead to a fantastic mid film showdown between Batman and Superman, referring back to the quote read by Lennix and the rumored ‘vs.’ of the title. Once convinced of Superman’s good intentions, Batman could be put at ease. Here is where Luthor’s malevolence could really take over, as he is driven mad with the idea of defeating Superman and Batman, who has seen through Luthor’s veneer. It would make an amazing final act to see Batman and Superman team up against Luthor decked out in his battle suit.
It’s unlikely that Warner and DC will cast Batman too old, as they will want to churn out a few more Batman themed films. Not to mention the ever promised Justice League film that was recently confirmed. Even if it does continue with the continuity established within Nolan’s world, Batman is only roughly mid 40’s. Of course, age isn’t really an issue if they pick the right person, much like Marvel did when they cast Robert Downey Jr. as Tony Stark in Iron Man. So who would make a great Batman?
The rumors we have spoken about state that DC may be searching for an older Batman, with Josh Brolin, Ryan Gosling, Jon Hamm, and Joe Manganiello all rumored (along with a few others) to wear the cowl. However, Warner and DC have denied all the rumors, with a source telling HollywoodReporter.com that the casting process hasn’t even started.
If they were to establish a completely new Batman then my choice of these would be Ryan Gosling (which was also Grizzly Bomb’s choice when we cast the Justice League movie). At 32 he seems the perfect age to carry the mantle of the Bat for a little while, and he has the acting chops, gravitas, and physique to make an imposing Batman. Brolin and Hamm however, would be perfect for a Batman around the age and point in his life that we find Bruce Wayne in during Miller’s ‘TDKR’. So we will have to wait and see a bit more from the film’s development before we can further speculate.

Batman: Arkham Origins might be the first prequel concept to hook me in a very long time: Two years into his career as the Dark Knight, Batman is a far more brutish and unrefined crime fighter than the hero we know from the previous games. His reputation as an ominous threat to Gotham’s underbelly inspires Black Mask to put a $50 million bounty on Bats’s head one Christmas Eve, attracting the attention of eight deadly assassins. Like Arkham Asylum, Origins sounds like it could play as a self-contained comic arc, but Origins will be even larger a game than Arkham City.
Developer Warner Bros. Games Montreal has been fairly tight-lipped with its cast of characters so far, but today at their Comic-Con panel they revealed Copperhead as one of the eight main villains in the game. Copperhead is a minor character in the Batman universe who in previous iterations either wore a super-powered snake costume or inherited snake-like powers a la Spider-Man. WB Montreal decided to revitalize the character as a woman (!) who, in line with the video game series, is much more realistic in design (Thank God). Arkham Origins‘s Copperhead doesn’t appear to have any supernatural abilities, but as a contortionist she can slink around and strike quickly with what seem to be poison-coated gauntlets. According to SuperHeroHype, DC’s Chief Creative Officer Geoff Johns liked Copperhead’s re-imagining so much they’ve decided to use the likeness in their comics, sort of like how Harley Quinn became canon following her creation in Batman: The Animated Series. It’s always nice to see more women in games and comics; I just wish they hadn’t sexualized her in the process.
