Mortal Kombat Creator Could Create Horror Icons Video Game

Horror movie characters like Freddy, Jason and the rest have managed to span numerous genres, not just the cinematic universes they were originally born into.

Jason Voorhees for example has his own video game currently in the works, plus old Spectrum and NES games from the 1980s, as well as a board game (called Last Friday) inspired by his murderous antics. And he is not alone.

Cowabunga! New Arcade Designed TMNT Figures Debut at SDCC 2016

There have been numerous Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles video games released, and depending on how old you are, you will have your own personal favorite. For me growing up in the 80s, I would always hit the arcades to play on one of the coolest games around, the Turtles arcade game.

Freddy Krueger’s Glove Appears in “Ash vs Evil Dead”

Ash vs Evil Dead has become possibly our favorite new show of the year here at Grizzly Bomb. It’s definitely my top choice this season. And it doesn’t hurt that Sam Raimi and the deadites keep finding reasons to make me love this show even more.

For those viewers with a keen eye, you might have been able to spot the glove of a certain villain who haunts the children of Elm Street during the show’s season finale.

Homemade Horror: ’80s Style Fan-Made Top Trumps, Books, & Action Figures

People love harking on about the good old days, when things were ‘so much better,’ or if nothing else slightly more innocent than today. Now I am as guilty as anyone of this, my life mostly revolving around the entertainment of my youth, be it retro games, comics or movies. I love modern entertainment as much as the next person, but ’80s media is where I really get my freak on! And it would seem that I’m not alone in my desire to celebrate the things from my youth, as a series of creators have made their own products which all incorporate an 80s theme to them.

Halloween Special: YouTube’s Horrific Halloween Shorts!

For me Halloween is not a time for gallivanting about, looking for parties and candy. No, for me Halloween is just another in the long line of excuses I use to sit on my behind watching horror movies. But what to watch? With a full day of Halloween styled movies at my disposal, sometimes it’s nice to have some filler in-between the big movies, to get some much-needed food and drink into the system before moving onto the next flick. Lucky for me YouTube has a ton of horror shorts ready for consumption. This is a short selection of some of the more interesting ones I found during my on-line travels.

Countdown to Halloween #6: Freddy Krueger

“Are you ready for Freddy?” It would appear that everyone is. The offspring of a thousand maniacs is still up and about since his debut in 1984. He has had a similar cinematic arc to his old box office rival Jason Voorhees, complete with its highs and lows. He went from been a stone cold psycho killer to a comedian prankster killer in the blink of an eye, and even though we got tired of his antics, we still loved him. He has survived a post modern turn and a revamp and just barely escaped a run in with Jason Voorhees and Ashley Williams. He is a multi layered killer. But what is it about Freddy that we really like and why does he give us the willies so much?

Countdown to Halloween #20: Jason Voorhees

Strange how one of the most iconic characters in horror lore were never meant to be. In the original movie, Jason popped up as part of Mrs. Voorhees damaged brain, and then briefly at the very end. Somehow though, the supposed drown child grew up to adult hood and took up a new past time; slashing up camp councilors. It’s not till the third film that he actually grabbed his iconic hockey mask, but boy did things change then. He became a horror movie icon, with his mug splashed all over everything. Heck he even appeared on talk shows where he does not speak! After 8 movies though, people started to tire of machete wielding maniac and he disappeared for a few years when filmmakers sent him to Hell once and for all. Or at least until he popped up again a few years later during a trip into space. We were also shown the residents of Elm Street being used as cannon fodder during Jason’s brief tussle with rival icon Freddy Kruger. Most recently though the character was subject to a 2009 reboot which introduced him to a whole new generation. Why though does he still hold a spot in our hearts? Well let’s have a look…

#17 – Countdown to Halloween: WES CRAVEN’S NEW NIGHTMARE

As a Freddy Krueger fan, New Nightmare is one of my favorite films. The story behind this movie is absolutely unique and creepy.

The Plot: New Nightmare revolves around Heather Langenkamp, who plays herself in this movie. She has a family: A husband, Chase, who works in special effects (played by David Newsom) and a son, Dylan, (played by Miko Hughes) who is absolutely adorable. Heather tries to keep Dylan from seeing her movies (her involvement in the Nightmare on Elm Street series was major), but throughout the movie, it becomes an impossibility.
