Marvel on NetFlix: Luke Cage Teaser, Iron Fist Casting, & Daredevil Reactions

Marvel’s television department is absolutely killing it on NetFlix.

Now three seasons into their run, things have thus far continued to get progressively better. Starting last spring with Daredevil, they set a different tone from the other Marvel properties, and delivered some serious fan-service. Great casting, brutal action sequences, addictively binge-worthy. November saw follow-up Jessica Jones successfully expand the television universe. Now, just this past weekend we were delivered the third installment – Daredevil season 2. The reactions have been overwhelmingly positive, especially in reference to Frank Castle.

NetFlix Releases Final Trailer for Daredevil’s Second Season

Matt Murdock, Foggy Nelson, and Karen Page attacked from different angles in season one, and their efforts combined to bring down the Kingpin and deliver us an excellent new series to binge. It was the first of the new Marvel shows on the streaming giant NetFlix, and it exceeded the expectations of most fans, setting a tone that Jessica Jones was able to beautifully followup.

Now here we are, into year two of Marvel’s NetFlix lineup, and before the Luke Cage show premieres September 30th, fan outcry has forced a second showing from the devil of Hell’s Kitchen. Today, the final trailer before Friday’s release dropped…

Marvel’s NetFlix Lineup: Daredevil S2 Return, Jessica Jones’ Future, & Luke Cage’s Change of Venue

Think villains are rough? Trying facing the real-world networks. That’s what Marvel characters Daredevil, Jessica Jones and Luke Cage encountered as their series underwent the scrutiny of parent television company Netflix. (We dealt with Iron Fist’s issues like racial background in an earlier post.)

For weeks, Daredevil fans have been forced to wait impatiently to find out when season two was supposed to start. Waiting hit a frenzy with shots of the violent vigilante Punisher and the enigmatic and future squeeze / love interest Elektra hit the Internet.

Best Buds: 8 Pairs of Lifelong Super Friends

Good friends are important, and best buds even more so. Someone who has your back, and who will be there when the chips are down. And of course, a heavily super powered friend that shares your own values, motivations, and love for extremely tight uniforms has to be pretty much the best thing ever.

There have been a lot of great pairings over the years in the comic book world, from best friends to friendly rivals. With more than a few friends taking each other on in the theaters next year with Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and Captain America: Civil War, it’s important to take stock of these friendships that have developed on-screen and in the comics for years. Sure, they’re fighting now, but chances are after the battle they’ll all go and grab a few beers and bro out over the battle.

There are quite a few more great friendships among the superhero community, buddies that have been through the thick and the thin, fought each other more times than they could count, and have even survived the ‘finality’ of death (at least until the inevitable rebirth). Let’s take a look at some Superhero Best Buds that have survived the test of time.

Iron Fist: Marvel’s Final Netflix Defender

There has been a lot of news regarding Marvel and Netflix’s particular corner of the Marvel Cinematic Universe over the last couple of years. The initial announcement dropped with the big news that the long in development Daredevil adaptation, whose rights had recently reverted back to Marvel, would be airing exclusively as a Netflix Original Series. Of course that wasn’t the only announcement made at the time, as we learned that Daredevil would be joined by a few other street level heroes. These heroes would each be getting their own series before starring together in a mini-series event known as The Defenders. We have already seen the first season of Daredevil, and are all just about to sit and binge Jessica Jones, which hits Netflix in its entirety tonight!

Final Jessica Jones Trailer, First Luke Cage Teaser for Marvel’s NetFlix Lineup

You will know Jessica Jones. Or at least be intrigued enough to watch the new Netflix series which debuts this Friday. The publicity machine over at the streaming channel earlier this month unleashed a barrage of stills of the titular character as well as many of the series’ cast. These include allies and friends like Trish Walker (played by Rachel Taylor), and the villainous Purple Man, who’s slickly portrayed by David Tennant of Doctor Who fame.

Heroes to Inspire Hairiness; Movember and No-Shave November, Comics-Style

November is almost like a silver-age DC character when it comes to being a theme month for men’s health issues. Representing “Earth One” is the Movember Foundation, which since 2003 has been encouraging men to grow their mustaches during November in an effort to raise awareness and money to combat prostate cancer, testicular cancer, poor mental health, and physical inactivity.

Representing “Earth Two” is No-Shave November, which concentrates its fund- and awareness-raising efforts on cancer prevention, research, and education. Rather than the ‘stache, No-Shave November merely wants participants to quit shaving completely.

Jessica Jones: NetFlix Releases New Trailers for Marvel Show

I like Jessica Jones. I enjoyed her intro in Marvel’s MAX imprint Alias #1, and subsequent appearances throughout the rest of the Marvel universe like the Young Avengers. And that’s unusual for me: I typically prefer my heroes to be super-heroic and part of team books like the X-Men. But Jones, a retired superhero more at home solo in dark alleys and chasing mysteries noir-style, appealed to my growing desire for more adult, contemporary stories outside of whom is dating whom in the superhero jet set (here’s glaring at you, Superman / Wonder Woman).

Marvel’s NetFlix: Jessica Jones Teaser, The Punisher & Lots of Casting

When Daredevil premiered on NetFlix back in April, it exceeded most everyone’s expectations. As a result, the bar was raised significantly for the rest of Marvel’s upcoming NetFlix shows. The next of said shows to premiere is Jessica Jones, and the date of its release was just announced;

Netflix & Marvel Studios Team Up for Four Shows in 2015

With the success of Marvel properties being turned into movies (such as Iron Man, Captain America and The Avengers) fans have been hungry for more. When ABC dropped the Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., it opened up new doors when the show became a modest hit. Seeing the increasing popularity of these Marvel-tinged movies and shows, Netflix has ordered four Marvel shows to premiere on their streaming service.
