Preacher Updates: Episode Order, Release Date, and Behind the Scenes

It’s been a few months since we last checked in on AMC’s adaptation of Garth Ennis’ Preacher books…

The series premiere was screened last Monday at SXSW and was met with positive reactions from the crowd. Many are drawing parallels to last month’s mega hit Deadpool, due mostly to the violent nature of the storytelling, combined with strong comedic writing. In this case, those writers (and producers) are Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg. The duo, responsible for getting this project off the ground, have collaborated previously on several projects, including Superbad, Knocked Up, and the funniest movie of 2013 – This is the End.

AMC Releases First Full Trailer for Preacher

The development of Garth Ennis’s Preacher into film has long seemed like a pipe dream for comic fans. Even after Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg announced their plans to create the series with the help of AMC, many remained skeptical, citing concerns over the series’ intensely graphic content and outlandish plot devices. But there’s no room left for doubt now; AMC released the first full trailer for Preacher during The Walking Dead, and it’s definitely worth watching.

Everything We Know So Far About AMC’s Preacher

We have been waiting to discuss Preacher for a while now. Not a while as in the last few weeks or last few months. No, we have been waiting to talk about a live action adaptation of Garth Ennis and Steve Dillon’s Preacher for years. It was first being shopped around as a big-screen adaptation, which then escalated into a series of films.

End of an Era; Vertigo Veteran Karen Berger Announced Departure

Karen Berger is leaving DC Comics’ Vertigo imprint, it was announced yesterday. Berger, who created and headed the Vertigo division from the beginning, is staying on until March 2013. We can leave it to the industry insiders to question what this means for the future of Vertigo and DC, and we will add our voices to wishing Berger the best in all future ventures once April 2013 rolls around. While we can’t pretend to know exactly how much influence Berger had on each individual work that published under the Vertigo imprint, it’s probably an understatement to say not only has she been one of the most influential people in comics over the past 25 years, but the sensibilities of the Vertigo line during its burgeoning in the 1990s has cast a long shadow of influence that can be seen across all media — not just comics — today.

The Walking Dead Finds a Governor!

For those of you wondering which actor is going to be playing that sicko bastard The Governor in the Walking Dead TV series, then wonder no more as he has been cast!

**SPOILERS AHEAD**

David Morrissey has most recently been in the movies Centurion and the Jason Statham cop thriller Blitz. Morrisey also has quite an extensive TV career, but nothing of which I’ve heard of, but feel free to check out his resume’ at IMDB.

For those of you not familiar with the good ole’ Governor, he is the leader of another group of zombie survivors in the town of Woodbury. Now this guy is completely freakin’ nuts. Reading the issues of Walking Dead with him in it were some of the most sadistic and gruesome things I’ve read in comics. Of course now a bunch of comics follow suit with the gruesomness in The Walking Dead, but at the time there wasn’t a whole lot besides The Punisher MAX and maybe Preacher that were as graphic as the Governor issues. Just know that this guy will most definitely change the face of the show if they even remotely stick to the comics. Lord knows they’ve taken plenty of liberties with the show thus far not having it follow the comics exactly, and I agree that the show is better of for it.

I’m not the biggest fan of the Walking Dead TV series, but I may have to jump back on board just to see how they handle a lot of scenes with the Governor and what kind of spirit that David Morrissey brings to the role. I’d love to see the picture below play out on screen.
